Report: Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Moussa Dembele For Sale From Tottenham

Danny Rose

Spurs have yet to make any move in the transfer window this summer with only one week remaining until it closes for Premier League clubs; until today that is. According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Moussa Dembele.

Spurs Move in Transfer Window: Alderweireld, Rose and Dembele for Sale

Whilst this news may come as little surprise, it suggests that Spurs have to sell before they can consider any new players. Toby Alderweireld was injured against Real Madrid at Wembley last season and was overlooked on his return, with Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen being the preferred pair at the back.

Manchester United have been open in their interest for Alderweireld but the two clubs have been some way apart in terms of a valuation for the player.

Alderweireld’s Get Out Clause

Spurs have the option to trigger a one season extension to Alderweireld’s contract but this would also trigger a £25 million release clause next summer, meaning Spurs would get a lot less than if they were to cash in now. Spurs fans would not be happy to see one of their best players joining another top-four rival again after Kyle Walker left for Manchester City last season.

Rose to Travel North?

Danny Rose didn’t endear himself to the Spurs hierarchy or the fans with comments made before the start of last season about Spurs’ perceived lack of big transfers. Rose commented that he didn’t want to have to look up ‘new players on Google to see who they are.’

Rose, at the time, intimated that he would move back north before the end of his career. Rose was a bit-part player for Spurs last season and has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Dembele to Move Abroad

Moussa Dembele is out of contract at the end of next season and suffered injuries in the last campaign, meaning that Spurs are ready to cash in on the Belgium enforcer. Dembele has said that he wouldn’t play for another Premier League club as ‘Tottenham are my club’, which led to rumours linking him to the Chinese Super League. However, these have quietened now following the closure of their transfer window.

What Does this Mean for Spurs?

Tottenham fans’ biggest concern will be around selling players to top-four rivals. It is not conducive to being a step forward to strengthen your rivals whilst not strengthening your own squad.

This breaking news suggests that Spurs do need to sell to buy and will possibly make their moves in the next six days of the transfer window.

Alderweireld is considered one of the best defenders in the world and it will be interesting to see if this news affects any new deal for his teammate and compatriot Jan Vertonghen.

Danny Rose, when fully fit, is surely Spurs’ best left back, so to sell to a rival would not be good business. He was brave to come out and talk about his depression and it could be that the club feel a move closer to his family is good for the player.

Dembele has been inconsistent, producing world-class performances against the likes of Juventus but then equally as poor in the FA Cup semi-final versus Manchester United.

Whatever happens with these three players, Spurs have finally made their move in the transfer window. It is just not the move that most Spurs fans would be wanting to hear.
