Championship Transfer News

Bruce to Remain Villa Boss

After meeting with Aston Villa’s new owners, Steve Bruce will remain as manager. Rumours had been building in recent days that Bruce would be replaced. It had been widely reported that Thierry Henry had been lined up to be the new manager at Villa Park. Only yesterday it was believed that Henry had verbally agreed to take over. However, after a meeting with new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, Bruce will remain.

Forest Linked to Reds Winger

Nottingham Forest are being linked with a £10 million move for Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo. The 21-year-old is unlikely to break into the first team at Anfield and looks likely to move on. Last season, Ojo played 24 times at Fulham on-loan, helping them win promotion.

After signing ten players already this summer, Forest are one of the favourites for promotion next season. England U21 international Ojo has also gained experience while on loan at Wolves and Wigan.

Leeds Linked to Defender

Leeds United are reportedly close to signing Wolves left-back Barry Douglas. It is understood that Leeds have met his valuation and that personal terms have already been discussed. Douglas only joined Wanderers last summer for £1 million. He went on to play 38 games as the club ran away with the Championship title.

The 28-year-old Scot, Douglas, was one of the most effective attacking full-backs in the Championship last season. He finished the season with an impressive 14 assists. It was, therefore, a surprise to many that he was not included in the EFL Team of the Season. Leeds have completed just two loan signings so far and fans are eager for more players to arrive.

Derby Close in on Strikers

Derby are close to agreeing a deal for Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn.
Both the Rams and Sheffield United are interested in the former Rangers forward; however, it appears that United are not prepared to pay the £8 million valuation. Waghorn has told Ipswich that he wishes to leave and has also handed in a transfer request. The striker scored 16 goals last season and was Town’s top scorer. Derby are understood to want to pay £4 million with add-ons, potentially taking the fee to £8 million.

The Rams have also agreed a deal to sign Peterborough hotshot Jack Marriott. A fee believed to be £3 million rising to £5 million has been agreed. The 23-year-old striker scored 33 goals last season. The transfer is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Exeter Striker Wanted

Preston and Ipswich are among several EFL clubs interested in signing striker Jayden Stockley. Former Aberdeen forward Stockley scored 24 goals last season. The 24-year-old has one year remaining in his current contract. Exeter signed the striker last year for a club record fee and he made an instant impact.

Ipswich are about to sell Martyn Waghorn and have identified Stockley as his replacement. Preston have already signed his teammate from last season, defender Jordan Storey.
