FTN: Latest on Bale, Martial, Rashford, Torreira and Martins

Lucas Torreira

Welcome to Football Transfer News, brought to you by Last Word on Football. On today’s edition, we discuss Arsenal’s pursuit of Torreira, the two clubs leading the chase for Gareth Bale and the Sporting Lisbon contract fiasco.

Latest on Bale, Martial, Rashford, Torreira and Martins

Gareth Bale Back?

Tottenham and Manchester United are both chasing Welsh superstar Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid starlet want to leave the Bernabeu following his fourth Champions League trophy in five years. Bale reportedly favours a move back to his former side Spurs, however, the fees being demanded are out of Tottenham’s budget range and are more in Manchester United’s price range. German giants Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation.

Arsenal Close in on Torreira

Arsenal have reportedly started negotiations with Sampdoria for highly rated Uruguayan defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira. The midfielder has attracted interest from Napoli, however, he is rumoured to have his heart set on a move to the English capital. Torreira has played for his country once and has been included in their squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Tottenham Monitoring United Starlets

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring the situations of United youngsters Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. United are publically courting the likes of Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic which would further limit the two players playing time. The arrival of Alexis Sanchez has already done that. Martial’s lack of game time resulted in his omission from the French World Cup squad and will likely be a catalyst for him forcing a move.

Sporting Contract Chaos

A number of Sporting Lisbon stars are seeking to have their contracts terminated. They are citing just cause, following a series of attacks by their own supporters. Around 50 fans stormed the Sporting training ground last season. William Carvalho, Bas Dost, Gelson Martins, Rui Patricio and Daniel Podence have all submitted contract termination notices. Martins and Carvallo have been on a number of Premier League sides’ wishlists. Their free agency will likely result in a scramble for their signature.
