Matthijs de Ligt

Welcome to Football Transfer News, brought to you by Last Word on Football. Latest On de Ligt, Evans, Lascelles and Darmian

Manchester City Leading de Ligt Race

18-year-old Matthijs de Ligt could be the latest big-money signing to join the blue half of Manchester. The Ajax academy graduate was a rumoured target of both Juventus and Tottenham. However, it is likely the reported £55 million price tag may have deterred Manchester City’s rivals. As a result, the Citizens appear to be frontrunners for the Dutch teen’s signature. The five-time capped Holland international is a confident, ball-playing centre-half who would fit the Guardiola philosophy and style of play perfectly.

Leicester City Close in on Evans

Jonny Evans is nearing a move to Leicester according to reports. The Northern Irish centre-half has a £3.5 million buyout clause in his contract; Leicester are apparently willing to activate it. The 30-year-old former Manchester United man was relegated with West Brom last season so appears eager to maintain his status as a Premier League player.

Lascelles on Spurs Radar

Tottenham reportedly want Jamaal Lascelles to join their already-impressive back-line. The 24-year-old Newcastle star has a hefty £45 million price tag being reported. The English centre-half would likely be purchased as a replacement for the departing Toby Alderweireld. Lascelles established himself as one of the top centre-halves in the Premier League last season meaning many felt he was unlucky to miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

Juventus Want Darmian

Juventus are targetting Manchester United’s Italian full-back, Matteo Darmian. However, the Italian giants are reportedly unhappy with the €20 million asking price as it is twice the amount that the Turin side deem Darmian to be worth. The Italian giants have apparently already on agreed personal details with the Italy international.
