Manchester United Announce Signing Of Diogo Dalot

Diogo Dalot

Manchester United have agreed to a transfer with Porto for Diogo Dalot. The deal is reportedly for £17.4 million. Manchester United activated the 19-year-old’s release clause and he relished the opportunity to join the English giants.

Diogo Dalot Sold to Manchester United

After a successful season of breaking into Porto’s first team and winning the Primeira Liga, the young Portuguese right-back has joined Manchester United. Mourinho has been scouting his fellow countryman since he broke into Porto’s first team.

The defender comes highly rated and can operate on either flank. With the ageing Antonio Valencia and United’s problems at left-back, Dalot is a practical coup for the Red Devils.

Dalot played six times for Porto in the Primeira Liga and played against Liverpool in the Champions League Round-of-16 tie in Porto. Making these few appearances for the northern Portuguese club, the youngster has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. As well as Manchester United, clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus and Napoli were interested in signing the promising youngster.

This news comes just after Porto sold their first choice right-back, Ricardo Pereira, to Leicester City. The Portuguese champions will have to search for a new right-back to fill the void left by their two former right-backs who have recently landed in England.

Good News for Valencia

The signing of an inexperienced right-back comes at good news for Antonio Valencia. Obviously, Mourinho is happy with the Ecuadorian and feels no need to replace him immediately. Diogo Dalot has come in to be Valencia’s understudy and Mourinho will hope he can step up in the future.

Mourinho and Youth

This signing will raise the eyebrows of Mourinho’s harshest critics. Many have said they fail to see him stay past three seasons. However, the signing of these 19-year-old prospect indicates that he is hoping for a longer career than expected at Old Trafford.
