Everton and Chelsea making waves, and the return of Chicharito?

Everton and Chelsea making waves, and the return of Chicharito?

The transfer rumour mill is a fast-paced smattering of elements of truth mixed up with a whole lot of smoke. Nonetheless, sifting through the mess can be fruitful (sometimes), so let’s take a look at the transfer turnstile that was today.

Transfer Turnstile

1. Everton want 90mill for Lukaku – worth it?

Everton are reportedly looking for £90million for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, despite universal reports of a £75million deal having been reached. At this point, Lukaku is nowhere near worth that extraordinary transfer fee. However, with the inflation in the market, and major clubs in search for an out and out centre-forward, Everton should be able to get a high fee for the 24-year-old. He has upside and potential to improve as a physical forward that is strong on the ball, and has already proven to be a clinical finisher – netting 25 goals and clocking up six assists in the 2016/17 Premier League season. It’s unlikely that Everton will receive £90million Lukaku. However, it looks to be a major transfer fee agreed for the young striker.

2. Leicester to see Demarai Gray to Everton?

The former Birmingham City product joined Leicester City at the start of last season, helping his club to an epic Premier League title. Having mostly come in off the bench—he started only nine games—he is well known to current Everton director of football Steve Walsh from his time at King Power stadium. The England U-21 impressed at the recent U-21 Championship. If this happens, it would be a good get for Everton, who seem to want radical changes to their squad.

3. Arda Turan is off the market, staying at Barca

The agent for Turkish midfielder Arda Turan has stated that the Barcelona man is now staying at the club. Having struggled to get enough playing time since his move from Atletico Madrid, his name has been floated around the transfer turnstile for months leading to the recent comments. A number of Premier League clubs, most notably Arsenal, were rumoured to be interested in attaining his services.

4. Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea “close”

Antonio Rudiger appears to be on his way to SW6 with a €35m deal said to be close. Comfortable as a Center back in a pair or a trio, Rudiger affords Antonio Conte the flexibility he desires tactically. Chelsea were in for the German international before a cruciate ligament injury last year, so expect this deal to go through in the near future.

5. Chicharito for a Prem League return, joining West Ham?

Recently, LWOF writer Darren Chapman argued that Javier Hernandez would be a perfect signing for West Ham, as he looks set to leave Bayer Leverkusen. He’s not alone, as rumours have been swirling for the last week that the former Manchester United man is returning to the Premier League. Chicharito currently boasts the fifth best minutes per goal ratio in Premier League history, and would be a welcome addition to many Premier League sides. With Andy Carroll’s fitness always in question, West Ham are the front runners to sign the Mexican Internaional. He would provide the Hammers with consistency in front of goal, and his movement off the ball with create many more opportunities – something they lacked last season. A move away from Germany looks very likely, after Leverkusen also saw Hakan Calhanoglu depart to AC Milan.
