Mets In Agreement With David Stearns

With the 2023 season about to close for the New York Mets, the team is gearing up for what is sure to be one of the most critical offseason in team history—following a disappointing campaign that has seen the team go from World Series aspirations to just trying to avoid last place in the National League East. The Mets sold off at the deadline and dealt away future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander for numerous prospects. Before the Mets can look to improve the team on the field, they first have to find the man for the job. On Tuesday, the Mets hope they got their guy, and it’s someone they’ve tried so desperately to get in the past.

Mets In Agreement With David Stearns

Per SNY’s Andy Martino and ESPN’s Jeff Passan, New York was finally able to hire David Stearns as their President of Baseball Operations. From 2015-2023, Stearns had previously worked in the Milwaukee Brewers front office as a General Manager, President of Baseball Operations, and advisor to owner Mark Attanasio.

Stearns will be the first President of Baseball Operations in the club’s history. Martino notes that Billy Eppler will remain the Mets’ General Manager. Owner Steve Cohen had previously mentioned that he was looking for a President of Baseball Operations to lead the way and assist Eppler.

A Mets Homecoming

It’s a special occasion as this is a homecoming for Stearns, who grew up listening to Mets games while being born and raised in Manhattan. Stearns graduated from Harvard University and would go to the Mets front office shortly after. Stearns got his foot in the door as a baseball executive with the Mets. Now, he’s being asked to turn the team around.
