Christian Cage Wins the IMPACT World Championship
This match was made official on Wednesday when Christian Cage confronted The Elite after their match with Dante Martin, Matt Sydal, and Mike Sydal. Cage informed Omega that he would challenge for both the AEW World Championship and the IMPACT World Championship. “The Instant Classic” captured the IMPACT World title tonight and could take the AEW World title from him when they go head to head at All Out.
Omega captured the IMPACT title from Rich Swann at the Rebellion pay-per-view. He has appeared on both AEW and IMPACT television and pay-per-view events ever since. Although Cage is part of the AEW roster, he is not a stranger to IMPACT Wrestling.
Cage wrestled for IMPACT when it was known as TNA Wrestling from 2005 until 2008. He held the NWA World Heavyweight title twice during his time with the promotion. He also won the 2008 Gauntlet for Gold, earning a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, which he was unable to capture. This is the first reign with the IMPACT World Championship for Christian Cage.
Cage already has a challenger lined up, as Brian Myers won the Number One Contender Battle Royal last night on IMPACT on AXS TV. They will square off at the IMPACT Plus event Emergence on August 20th.
