Preview: AEW Rampage (8/13/21) – The Debut Episode

AEW Rampage Debut Episode Kicks Off With Kenny Omega versus Christian Cage

The “Rampage Era” of AEW begins and it starts this Friday night on TNT. Establishing a new paramount program for a major wrestling company is never easy. But, All Elite Wrestling seems to have all bases loaded for the very debut episode of AEW Rampage. Three championships will be on the line and it cannot get any better than this. Emanating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, “The Steel City” will be draped in gold as their very own champion defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against an opponent who has climbed a mountain that many thought she couldn’t. The TNT Championship is on the line as “The Redeemer” goes up against the “Master of the Tornado DDT”.

Last and certainly not least, the “God of Pro Wrestling” defends one of his many World Championship titles against a man who promised to “Out Work Everyone” and aims to do so in the very first match in Rampage history. We all know you’re excited, so let’s not keep anyone waiting any longer. Let an hour of Rampage ensue as Friday night is almost upon us. Let’s run it down.

Full Match Card:

  • IMPACT World Championship Match: Kenny Omega (c) (w/Don Callis) vs. Christian Cage
  • TNT Championship Match: Miro (c) vs. Fuego Del Sol – “If Fuego Del Sol Wins He Also Earns An AEW Contract”
  • AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Dr.Britt Baker, D.M.D. (c) (w/Rebel) vs. Red Velvet

Pulling The Trigger Or Flipping The Switch?

Kenny Omega and Christian Cage will make history as they kick off AEW Rampage, in the first-ever match in the show’s history, for none other than the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship. This is a preview of what’s to come at All Out. Cage outworked everyone and secured the number one spot in the AEW rankings to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship opposite Kenny at AEW’s premier event. Kenny Omega has been virtually unstoppable since December of last year. He has gone through anyone and everyone. Some might say he has resorted to some less than savory tactics to keep his title but you really cannot underestimate the heart of a champion.

The champion carries AEW’s richest prize like his life depended on it because it seems like it does. Shortly thereafter, he set his sights on another championship. “The Belt Collector” went on to defeat Rich Swann to capture the IMPACT World Championship adding to not only his collection but further padding an already impressive resume. With that being said, Omega has not gone up against an opponent with the caliber and magnitude Christian Cage has. A former world champion in his own right, Cage has been looking forward to this for a long time. Seven years in the making, Christian wants another world title run under his belt before his legendary career is all said and done. The last time Cage held a championship under the IMPACT Wrestling umbrella was back in January of 2007 and you just know he’s itching to hold the gold once again.

Cage has the chance to not only nab gold but also gain some momentum ahead of All Out. But, once again, Omega will do everything in his power, and maybe The Elite’s too, to prevent that from ever happening. Will Kenny Omega find another way once more to cling onto the gold or will Christian Cage collect gold Friday night and clean out the rest come All Out?

Rocking In Brittsburgh

The first ever main event of AEW Rampage comes in the form of hometown hero and AEW Women’s World Champion, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., defending her title against Red Velvet. Baker has been the undisputed face of the AEW Women’s division since day one. She solidified that christening by capturing the title against Hikaru Shida back at Double Or Nothing. Not long after, Baker proved once again why she is the best when she defeated “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose in her first-ever title defense back at Fyter Fest Night Two.

Her opponent on the night has a lot to prove. Red Velvet said she has a huge chip on her shoulder and is willing to do anything to prove the doubters wrong. No one ever bothered to learn her name initially, but she will do everything to make sure they never forget it again. This is Velvet’s chance to write her name in the annals of wrestling history if she manages to dethrone the “Queen of AEW” this Friday night. In the bright lights of the main event and a massive opportunity before her, Velvet is sure to pull out all the stops in the biggest match of her career, thus far. Will Red Velvet finally reach the mountain top and capture the Women’s Championship or will Britt Baker waltz into Brittsburgh and crush every last shred of hope her opponent has?
