In the past year, one of the teams to have come up in the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) heavyweight tag scene is the team of Zack Sabre Jr and Taichi. Both are part of the Suzuki-Gun faction and began teaming at the start of 2020. The team, better known as Dangerous Tekkers, became IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions at Dominion 2020.
They held the tag titles until Wrestle Kingdom 16. They would, of course, drop the titles to the Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) – following their winning the World Tag League. In this match, The Guerillas of Destiny would win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships for an impressive seventh time.
After that match, The Guerillas of Destiny would get personal with Dangerous Tekkers; taking the gauntlet that was given to Taichi by Takashi Iizuka – which led to a DQ victory in the rematch for the belts. After another successful title defense against Yoshi-Hashi and Hirooki Goto, Guerillas of Destiny would battle Dangerous Tekkers one more time in the Road To Dominion Show.
In the main event of this Road To Show, both teams would go through a 26 minute war – notable for the return of Miho Abe. The result would feature Dangerous Tekkers regaining the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. This marks the beginning of a second reign for the Tekkers, with the last reign clocking in at 160-plus days.
The next challengers for the titles are currently unknown, but in a promo after the match, Dangerous Tekkers would throw out an open challenge for the belts. It is unknown whether this open challenge will be at the upcoming Dominion show. One thing which is certain is that the challengers might not be from New Japan Pro Wrestling – we could see an inter-promotion match in the near future. No doubt, the new IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions will be ready for all comers.
