Recently, the professional wrestling world was stunned by the news of Jon Moxley and Yuji Nagata locking horns. Last week, Moxley, the reigning IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, declared that he was “big game hunting” for new challengers to his title. He addressed New Japan Pro Wrestling legend Nagata, directly laying a challenge out to him. While their eventual singles match won’t take place until May 12, on AEW Dynamite, fans will receive a taste of things this Friday on NJPW Strong.

On NJPW Strong, Moxley will team with Chris Dickinson to battle the duo of Nagata and Ren Narita. Dickinson is in a prominent position on the show, being the first challenger for the inaugural NJPW Strong Openweight Champion, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor. On the other side of the equation, Narita is among the current crop of young lions for NJPW, currently on excursion in the United States. Narita was part of the recent New Japan Cup USA 2021 tournament, losing to eventual winner Lawlor in the first round.
As stated earlier, Jon Moxley and Yuji Nagata will lock horns on American soil. Their upcoming IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship match is notable for a few reasons. First, it will mark the first time the title has ever been defended in AEW. Second, this will be Nagata’s AEW in-ring debut. Expect a warm reception for “Blue Justice” from the All Elite faithful.
