In March of 2020, the world at large was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the industries hit the hardest was professional wrestling; due to the health concerns surrounding the pandemic, many organizations had to restructure or cease operations. In the case of Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling, it provided an opportunity to create something unique: ChocoPro. One year later, the show has become something of a cult hit, telling stories and putting on matches to the delight of fans watching online. This weekend, Gatoh Move celebrates its one-year milestone with the two-day ChocoPro #100 event. Let’s take a look at the action to come on Day One.
Asia Dream Tag Team Championship: Best Bros (Mei Suruga and Baliyan Akki) (c) vs. Pencil Army (Emi Sakura and Minoru Fujita)
This is a rematch from the previous episode of ChocoPro. In the main event of said show, Best Bros suffered a rare non-title loss against Pencil Army stalwarts Emi Sakura and Minoru Fujita. Given Mei Suruga and Baliyan Akki’s status as Asia Dream Tag Team Champions, their loss was all the more shocking. On Day One of ChocoPro #100, these two teams will meet once again with bigger stakes on the line. This time, Sakura and Fujita are vying for the Asia Dream Tag Team Titles. Suffice to say, Suruga and Akki aren’t set to take another loss. It’s also worth noting that, on Day 2, Akki and Fujita will meet to crown a new Super Asia Champion, the title having been in limbo since June of 2019. In this match featuring two game tag teams, which duo will emerge holding the purple belts?
Sayaka Obihiro and Sayaka (ChocoPro Return) vs. Sayuri and Chon Shiryu
ChocoPro #100 will mark the first in-ring match of Gatoh Move fourth generation star Sayaka since the very first episode. In other words, this will be Sayaka’s first match in one year. However, she is technically undefeated; on the first ChocoPro show, she teamed with Yuna Mizumori in a winning effort over Lulu Pencil and Mitsuru Konno. On ChocoPro #100, she will team with long-time Gatoh Star, Sayaka Obihiro, to battle the “Kunoichi” and “Dragon” of ChocoPro, Sayuri and Chon Shiryu, respectively. This is a match that can go either way. While this will be young Sayaka’s return, Sayuri and Shiryu picked up a win in their last tag team match on episode #97. Keep an eye on this tag team encounter.
Chie Koishikawa and Hagane Shinnou vs. PSYCHO and CHANGO (ChocoPro Debut)
Combining bright energy and a stoic approach, Chie Koishikawa and Hagane Shinnou will reunite on Day One of ChocoPro #100. Affectionately known as “Egg Tarts,” Koishikawa and Shinnou last teamed on episode #91, when they unsuccessfully challenged Best Bros for the Asia Dream Tag Team Championship. To say that their opponents, for this match, are unique would be an understatement. From Osaka Style Wrestling to All Japan Pro Wrestling and beyond, PSYCHO is a Japanese wrestling star who has gone under various aliases. Meanwhile, CHANGO, trained by Ultimo Dragon, is a multi-time tag team titleholder for Guts Pro Wrestling. Both PSYCHO and CHANGO have appeared for Gatoh Move in the past, though this episode marks the latter’s first ChocoPro match. Can “Egg Tarts” take the fight to these veterans?
Tokiko Kirihara and Antonio Honda vs. Pencil Army (Lulu Pencil and Chris Brookes)
Between the hard-hitting, straightforward approach of Tokiko Kirihara and the wily strategy of Antonio Honda, this may be one of the most interesting tandems in ChocoPro. Nonetheless, they make a surprisingly effective pair, having forced their opponents to work harder to win. Day 1 of ChocoPro #100 will be no exception, as they take on Pencil Army commanding officer Lulu Pencil and her newest recruit in “Chris Pencil.” Former DDT Universal Champion Chris Brookes officially joined Pencil Army on episode #95; a man that was once a hated enemy of the group was now part of its ranks. Lulu Pencil has done well bringing her former enemy into the fold, but now, they must learn to work together if they intend on picking up a win over Kirihara and Honda on this special episode of ChocoPro.
PURE-J Openweight Championship: Kaori Yoneyama (c) vs. Yuna Mizumori (ChocoPro Main Event)
In the main event of ChocoPro #100 Day 1, Kaori Yoneyama will defend her newly won PURE-J Openweight Championship against Yuna Mizumori. At the recent PURE-J Fight Together 2021 event, Yoneyama defeated Leon to win the title for the first time. The following night, at a YMZ event, the new champion successfully retained against Chie Ozora. Mizumori, who wrestled Tsubasa Kuragaki on the same show, stepped up to the plate. “Tropical Yahho” herself made her intentions clear: she wanted a shot at Yoneyama’s PURE-J Openweight Title.
The importance of this ChocoPro main event can’t be understated. With over two decades of wrestling experience, Yoneyama has held a litany of championships, excelling in organizations such as Japanese Women Pro Wrestling Project and Ice Ribbon. Meanwhile, as a two-time Asia Dream Tag Team Champion in her own right, Mizumori has yet to hold singles gold. Not only would a win on ChocoPro #100 Day 1 mean that Mizumori successfully trumped a legend but it would be her first time holding gold as a solo star.
ChocoPro #100 Day 1 will air on March 27 at 10:00 AM JST (March 26 at 9:00 PM EST)
It will air live on the Gatoh Move YouTube channel for free before being available for on-demand viewing afterward.
