Preview: AEW DARK (01/05/21) – Ashley Vox Debuts, 16 Matches

AEW Dark

AEW DARK kicks off with its first show of the year with a huge episode featuring 16 matches, including the debuts of new wrestlers as well as returning athletes. AEW Dark was unprecedented in 2020 with the amount of new faces it brought on board, and it seems to be continuing in that fashion into 2021. This is a preview of Tuesday’s match card:

Is AEW DARK too long?

In the past, DARK has been called out for being too long and having too many matches. For a show that many compare to WWE’s Sunday Night Heat, these days DARK actually runs longer than Monday Night Raw, assuming commercial breaks aren’t included. A reason for this could be related to the pandemic, with AEW giving as many wrestlers as they can a payday in these hard times. Assuming the virus becomes more manageable in 2021, with fans being allowed to return to the shows in more numbers, it will be interesting to see how DARK changes its dynamic.

13 Main Roster wrestlers appear

This week’s card features a number of main roster AEW stars including SCU appearing in two matches, as well as the Lucha Brothers (Penta El 0 M & Fenix), Matt Sydal, Jurassic Express, Nyla Rose, Vickie Guerrero, Sammy Guevara, and Thunder Rosa all in action as well.

 Ashley Vox Debuts

Ashley Vox makes her AEW debut against Thunder Rosa.  Vox is mostly known for her work as a member of  The Sea Stars alongside Delmi Exo.  The two recently took part in IMPACT Wrestling‘s Knockouts tag team title tournament and are the current SHIMMER tag team champions.
