Roughly four years since joining forces, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch reached the peak of the WWE NXT tag team division. On this week’s episode of NXT, the hard-hitting, no-nonsense tag team faced NXT Tag Team Champions Breezango in the main event. It’s important to note that, originally, The Undisputed Era was set to face Breezango. However, during the show, Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong were found laid out backstage, Kyle O’Reilly unable to determine who the culprit was. With Fish and Strong out of commission, O’Reilly told NXT General Manager William Regal to give the title shot to Lorcan and Burch.

What many NXT fans expected was a straight-up tag team match for the titles. The match began in quick fashion, Lorcan and Burch utilizing their ground-and-pound style against Breezango’s fast-paced offense. Despite being the champions, Breezango found Lorcan and Burch to be an extra challenge. After having failed in their efforts to claim the NXT Tag Team Championship time and time again, the challengers were that much more driven. This was especially true since they weren’t originally scheduled for the match.
However, toward the end of the match, a man wearing a hoodie and metal mask interfered. The assailant shoved Fandango off the top rope as the dancing Superstar attempted an aerial maneuver. The assailant in question then hid under the ring. Afterward, Burch hit Tyler Breeze with a low blow. This allowed the challengers to double team Breeze. One pinfall later and Lorcan and Burch were crowned the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

The masked man soon joined Lorcan and Burch in their celebration. After a slow unmasking, the assailant was revealed as none other than Pat McAfee, the man Adam Cole defeated at NXT TakeOver: XXX. With a cocky grin on his face, McAfee introduced Lorcan and Burch as the new champions. He then added that it was “undisputed,” mocking the faction he had been at odds with. At that moment, viewers received clarity as to who was behind the aforementioned backstage attacks.
As stated earlier, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch began teaming about four years ago. Though they initially found themselves entangled in a singles feud, it wasn’t long until they began working together. Lorcan and Burch took part in the 2018 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but were eliminated early on by the team of Strong and Pete Dunne. They would also go on to challenge Strong and O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II for the titles, but were unsuccessful in this endeavor. Nonetheless, they remained a reliable tandem on the black-and-gold brand.
