Another week led to another opportunity for a collection of indie wrestlers to get a shot on AEW Dark. Continuing to support the indies and give wrestlers otherwise out of work right now a chance to wrestle, AEW brought in four indie wrestlers, including one familiar face from last week’s Double Dark show, to take part in various matches on this week’s card. And it’s a big one as for the first time the AEW Champion appeared on Dark as Jon Moxley took on Faboo Andre. The remaining three matches followed the same theme as they pitted an AEW star against an independent wrestler.
You watched them wrestle, so now get to know the indie wrestlers from this week’s episode of AEW Dark.

Wrestling out of Florida, Faboo Andre, who calls himself a fabulous butterfly, has been on the independent scene since 2017. Andre was trained by the World Wrestling Network Training Center and since then, has wrestled primarily for WWN, REAL Pro Wrestling and American Combat Wrestling where he reached the semifinals in their Proving Ground Tournament in 2018. While he’s yet to win his first career title, he’s certainly been in the ring with champions. None the level of what he faced on Tuesday night, however when he took on Jon Moxley in the biggest match of his young career.

It was a battle of Shawns as “the Captain” Shawn Dean took on the “Perfect 10” Shawn Spears in Dark action. Trained by the WWA4 Pro Wrestling School and AR Fox, the Chicago native is still getting his feet wet in the world of pro wrestling. A lifelong wrestling fan, Dean is known for his vlog series on Twitter as well as for his role as a former contributor to FanSided’s Daily DDT. A pro wrestler since 2018, he’s wrestled for ACTION Wrestling, WWN, Evolve and more.

AEW officials must have liked Matt Sells because a week after his AEW Dark debut alongside Jon Cruz against QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes, Sells is back and this time in singles action against one of AEW’s most exciting young stars in Sammy Guevara. A 16-year veteran of the ring, Sells is the trainee of Dory Funk Jr. and Todd Sexton. He’s known for his time in NWA Anarchy as well as Ring of Honor, where he took part in the Future of Honor as well as a few dark matches and televised events for the promotion from 2014-17. Sells is also known for his time with Alternative Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Bushido. In his career, Sells has won six titles, including the NWA Atlanta Heavyweight Championship.

Also known as Cody Vance or simply Vanilla, Preston Vance was trained in the Monster Factory by Danny Cage. The 28-year-old, wrestling out of Detroit, has been on the scene since 2015 and in just five short years, he’s already made debuts in WWE, IMPACT Wrestling and AEW, where he showed up in January in a dark match alongside Shawn Spears against the father-son team of Billy and Austin Gunn. Known mainly for his time in Georgia Premier Wrestling and MFPW, Vance is a one-time MFPW champion and has been a finalist in both the Young Lions Cup for All Pro Wrestling and the King of BUSHIDO 2 tournament for Pro Wrestling Bushido. Much like his three indie colleagues, this was a huge match for Vance against the always exciting and innovative Darby Allin.
