First Four Names Revealed for AEW TNT Championship Tournament

With pro wrestling grinding to a halt in most regions of the world, pre-taped content by WWE, AEW, and IMPACT continues to be our only source of content. In an effort to keep the buzz going, All Elite Wrestling announced on Monday that a secondary title was being introduced to the men’s division in the form of the TNT Championship – a play on both the network that AEW airs its weekly program, as well as a synonym for the show Dynamite itself. On Tuesday’s episode of AEW DARK, the first four names were revealed for the 8-man tournament that kicks off next Wednesday, April 8 on AEW Dynamite.

Two men who have some unsettled business thanks to an early confrontation in AEW’s history when Shawn Spears delivered a brutal chair shot to Cody Rhodes leading to their match at last year’s AEW All Out. While they never had a rematch, the animosity is clearly still there, especially listening to Cody’s commentary on Tuesday’s edition of AEW DARK.

Two young talents that represent not only the future of AEW but the future of pro wrestling. Sammy Guevara has been the most consistently entertaining member of The Inner Circle outside of Chris Jericho and continues to shine in the ring with his athleticism and innovation. Another youngster is the near-suicidal abandon of Darby Allin. It’s a shame these two are meeting in the first round, simply because it means one of them is going to be done by the time the first round ends.
