The NXT UK Recap (12/19/19)

NXT UK Tyler Bate

The last official NXT UK episode of 2019 (next week’s episode will be a best of 2019 special) featured an amazing main event between two of NXT UK‘s best, some challenges made for NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II next month, and tensions rising between a certain Fashionista and her bodyguard.

Instant Classic

The main event bout between Tyler Bate and Noam Dar will go down as a true instant classic in NXT UK history. Both men left it all in the ring, with The Big Strong Boi using his striking ability to weaken Dar, whereas The Scottish Supernova utilised his surroundings in an effort to come out on top, slamming Tyler back first into the steel steps at ringside that resulted in an immensely close nine count before Tyler just made it into the ring. The match could’ve ended it at any moment, especially when Noam synched Tyler into the Champagne Superkneebar as a counter to his rebound lariat. Jordan Devlin entered towards the end of the match, which appeared to distract Tyler Bate, only for him to connect with the Tyler Driver ’97 for the victory. As The Irish Ace attempted to ambush Tyler as soon as the bell rang, Bate raised his hand as Devlin cowered, with a challenge being made for TakeOver. Another huge bout more or less confirmed for the January 12th event.

Welcome Home, Amir

After quite a chunk of time away from the ring due to a shoulder injury, Amir Jordan finally made his in-ring return to NXT UK as he reunited with Kenny Williams in victorious fashion over Pretty Deadly (Sam Stoker and Lewis Howley). Although Stoker and Howley attempted to focus their attention on the shoulder of The Bhangra Badboy, nothing was keeping Amir down, especially when you had someone like The Lucky Yin as your tag team partner. Williams flew all over the ring as he took out both members of Pretty Deadly with his high-flying arsenal of back elbows and suicide dives. Sam and Lewis did very nearly come out victorious, but eventually, Kenny planted Howley on his neck, allowing Amir to fly in and connect with the Swanton Bombay for the three count. A successful return to in-ring action for Amir Jordan.

Tension In The Ranks

French wrestler Amale made her NXT UK debut this week as she took on Jinny, with The Fashionista looking to bounce back from her loss to Piper Niven a few weeks ago. While Jazzy Gabert didn’t get involved in this match, Jinny was still able to pick up the victory after connecting with the Makeover sitout facebuster, although Amale was able to show some real fighting spirit in this one. Post-match, the new PROGRESS Wrestling Women’s Champion ordered Gabert to further punish the French standout. The former Alpha Female hesitated the first two times, but upon being ordered to attack for a third time, the German powerhouse instead walked out on Jinny. By the looks of things, Jinny has gone one step too far. Not only has she now seemingly lost her bodyguard, but there’s also the possibility that Jazzy will be after her to become a major player in the NXT UK women’s division. You never want to get on the bad side of Jazzy Gabert.

See You In Blackpool

To say Trent Seven is an angry man would be an understatement. The British Strong Style member was out to confront Eddie Dennis for his actions since surprisingly returning from injury a few weeks back, including ruining the NXT UK debut for Michael May last week. After finally being joined by the reigning PROGRESS Unified World Champion, it didn’t take too long for Seven to receive a microphone to the skull courtesy of The Pride of Wales. All Eddie had to say for his actions as of late was that he would see Seven in Blackpool on January 12th. Eddie Dennis is out to make a name for himself in NXT UK at the expense of one of the brand’s founding fathers.

What Else?

In addition to all of this, Imperium‘s Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner were furious at the news of a Fatal Four Way Ladder Match at TakeOver: Blackpool II seeing as they claim to have had GallusMark Coffey and Wolfgang beat in the middle of the ring, Ligero vowed to get revenge over Kassius Ohno for using nefarious means to beat him last week when they square off in two weeks time, and WALTER insisted that Alexander Wolfe would be able to defeat Ilja Dragunov in their No Disqualifications Match on January 2nd, giving Imperium the psychological advantage going into TakeOver two weeks later.
