The Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE SummerSlam 2026. is only a few days away. WWE’s second-biggest show of the year has gone the way of WrestleMania and will again be presented in a two-night format. It makes sense for WWE to push their summer showcase into two nights. It makes SummerSlam an all-weekend event, thereby driving up ticket sales and buy rates and helping to keep both shows at a sensible runtime.
Twelve matches have been announced for SummerSlam, and Minnesota is ready to explode. Massive World Championship matches, show-stealing contests, and two men entering hell are ready to make this SummerSlam the greatest of all time.
As the first weekend in August approaches, people may have made plans to go away, but WWE has stacked a deck so full that they should rethink that. Here are some reasons to cancel your plans to watch SummerSlam.
Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi Enter Hell
Everything that has taken place between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi has been great. When Lesnar cares, he works his butt off to get the other man over, and he has done that with Oba Femi. The Ruler has become a monster killer in WWE, and that’s due to Brock Lesnar’s influence.
The physicality in their previous encounters has been intense. These are not men who go about their business, scientifically tearing their opponents down. Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi are monsters that use their size and strength to overwhelm whoever is brave enough to stand across from them.
At WrestleMania and Backlash, we saw Lesnar and Femi destroy one another, not getting fancy but being very effective. Now that they are heading into Hell in a Cell, everything is going to be elevated to the extreme.
Hell in a Cell is a structure that promotes extreme violence. It is there to settle scores in the most absolute of ways, and that’s what we are going to get with Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi. This is, theoretically, Brock Lesnar’s swan song, and he will want to go out on a high. If these men can go the way of CM Punk and Drew McIntyre from a few years ago, this is going to be the highlight of SummerSlam.
An Interim WWE Women’s Champion?
WWE went in a different direction in handling the injury to WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley. Instead of stripping her of the championship, they have decided to crown an interim champion until Ripley returns to action. It’s not a move that WWE has done very often. It offers a unique chance for WWE to test the waters and perhaps set up a highly anticipated match down the line.
The interim tag means that someone can come out of nowhere and win the WWE Championship, and hold court until Rhea Ripley returns. It sets up an undisputed championship match, which WWE loves, and gives WWE a chit to pull at one of their bigger shows.
More importantly, WWE has a great chance to put the strap on someone that they might be nervous about pushing. A wrestler who could have the fans in their corner, but WWE is not sure about putting a title on them. Having an underdog come out of nowhere would be a great story for not only SummerSlam, but the future of WWE. It would also give the company a clickable moment that they love to share on social media. Everyone loves a great surprise underdog story, and that could happen here.
The Shield’s Last Ride
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns’ names have been synonymous with each other since their debut in WWE. Whether together or engaged in battle, these two men have been linked with each other for decades. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are two of WWE’s biggest names, and their matches have reached legendary status within the company. Spanning various PLEs, including two WrestleMania main events, these matches are a part of WWE history, but they have remained mostly one-sided.
Seth Rollins has maintained a healthy advantage, always getting the better of his Shield running mate. It’s that backstory that goaded Roman Reigns into this match at SummerSlam, and it’s his hubris that could lead to his downfall. Or it could be the night in which The Tribal Chief finally exorcises his demons.
Regardless of how the World Heavyweight Championship match goes, it’s nearly certain that this will be the final major showdown between two men who have shaped World Wrestling Entertainment over the past 15 years. It will be a great match between two men who have an incredible shared history, and the crowd will be loving every minute of it.
The two former friends know that their time is coming to an end, and will give every ounce of effort to make their last dance a match worthy of the Hall of Fame. For anyone close to the product since Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns debuted, this match cannot be missed.
