Pat McAfee Replaced on Commentary after Vicious Assault on Raw after Mania

When it comes to yeeting, no one yeets with more intensity than Pat McAfee and on Monday, he paid the price.

Shortly after Jey Uso’s championship celebration where both McAfee and Michael Cole joined in acknowledgement of Uso’s win, Gunther hit the ring and he was furious. The crowd began chanting “you tapped out,” and that seemed to set the former champ off. As McAfee and Cole remained on commentary, Gunther approached them and got in Cole’s face. Cole asked why Gunther was mad at them because with all due respect, they weren’t the ones who tapped out…

Well, that did it. Gunther ripped Cole’s headset off before pushing McAfee to the ground. He then grabbed Cole and locked him in a rear naked chokehold before McAfee came in to make the save. Security hit the ring but they could only separate Gunther and McAfee for a few moments before Gunther charged the former NFL punter and locked him in the chokehold. Officials tried to pull Gunther off McAfee to no avail. Finally, Gunther begged off but the damage was done. McAfee was helped to the back, visibly struggling to breathe. He was led off to receive medical attention as Cole made his way back to the commentary table where he was joined by Joe Tessitore.

Not sure where this is all heading but there was a prevailing narrative here that really was designed to put over the announcers. Cole made the point that commentators need to be allowed to have opinions and share opinions without fearing the wrestlers may go after them. Cole even called for Gunther to be fired. It came off a little heavy-handed but there seems to be a bigger story here than maybe just McAfee wanting or needing some time off.
