The Raw after Mania never ceases to disappoint. In the first hour, Randy Orton established his intent to challenge for the world title, new tag champions were crowned, Becky Lynch turned heel, and Rusev made his triumphant return. But WWE was only just getting started as the second hour kicked off with a huge appearance from the NXT Women’s Champion, Stephanie Vaquer.
Stephanie Vaquer Challenges IYO SKY on Raw after Mania
Hour two kicked off with IYO SKY basking in the glow of her triple threat victory to retain the Raw Women’s Championship on Sunday night at WrestleMania 41. SKY talked about how happy she was and how after Sunday night, no one would make her an afterthought anymore. They wouldn’t forget about the Genius of the Sky.
That’s when Vaquer’s music hit and out walked the NXT Women’s Champion. Vaquer said she was there to give SKY her props and show her respect. But she was also there because SKY was the best and Vaquer wants to fight the best. Vacquer challenged SKY to a match and she accepted. Adam Pearce came out and many thought he was going to put a kibosh on things but he was in a generous mood and since the ladies wanted it, the crowd wanted it, and he wanted it, the match was made official.
The crowd was hot from the start with dueling chants of La Primera/IYO SKY. Throughout the match, both women looked great with Vaquer getting a chance to show off her abilities in her main roster debut. In the end, SKY got the better of her first title challenger thanks to interference from Roxanne Perez and Guilia, who took out both SKY and Vaquer. That’s when Rhea Ripley made her way to the ring and took out Perez. Ripley and Giulia had a staredown before the NXT star retreated. That’s when Ripley turned her attention to the Raw Women’s Championship laying on the mat. The former champ picked up the title and handed it to SKY, but not before making it clear that she was coming for the title.
Finish aside, it was a fantastic showing for Vaquer nonetheless. She’ll head back to NXT as that brand’s champion, no doubt with a bright future ahead of her.
