Jonathan Gresham has unified the ROH Championship with the original ROH Championship. The unification match against Bandido headlined Supercard of Honor, which was the first Ring of Honor event following their hiatus and subsequent purchase from Tony Khan.
Jonathan Gresham Wins ROH World Championship at Supercard of Honor
Congratulations to the undisputed @ringofhonor World Champion @TheJonGresham! #SupercardOfHonor
— Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) April 2, 2022
This match was originally scheduled to take place at Final Battle 2021, the final event in the previous era of Ring of Honor. Bandido was scheduled to defend his ROH World Championship against Gresham in the main event. Unfourtanetly, Bandido contracted COVID-19 which prevented him from being on the card. Jay Lethal stepped up and took the match against Gresham on short notice.
During Hour One of Final Battle 2021, the stipulation was added that the match would be for the original ROH Championship. Gresham won the match and ROH went on hiatus after. Gresham defended the title against a variety of wrestlers in promotions such as GCW, IMPACT, TERMINUS, PROGRESS, DEFY, and many others. We will see if he continues to do so, now that ROH is under new ownership. Gresham now holds the only top prize in ROH. His win is fitting as his goal has been to restore the honor in Ring of Honor. He also has been key to revitalizing the Pure Divison in ROH. We will see who steps up to challenge him first now that he is the undisputed champion.
