This Sunday, Game Changer Wrestling returns to The Showboat in Atlantic City for GCW Don’t Tell Me What to Do. Yes, not only is it the name of the event, but it’s a command. All jokes aside, this promises to be another stacked show from the independent wrestling powerhouse. Included in the action to come is the first GCW Tag Team Championship defense from the new champions fresh off their big win last month at the historic Hammerstein Ballroom. A High-Flying Encounter
2 Cold Scorpio vs. Gringo Loco can best be described as a combination of old-school wrestling with lucha libre flair. In other words, this will be a high-flying contest to keep an eye on. Since his career renaissance that started a few years back, Scorpio has been busy on the independent scene, showing that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level. Look no further than some of his most recent matches in GCW, including a tag team encounter against BUSSY and an ROH World Championship contest against Jonathan Gresham, both of which took place last month. When Jungle Boogie plays, and the former 4x ECW World Television Champion makes his entrance, it’s expected that a solid match will follow. This should be no different come GCW Don’t Tell Me What to Do.
In the months to come, Gringo Loco is going to be busy on the indie scene. It was recently announced that he’ll play a major role in this year’s Collective, hosting an event known as Gringo Loco’s The WRLD on LUCHA. It should come as no surprise that Loco will play said role given his involvement in GCW events. He’s often part of tag team and multi-person matches, the former being especially well-received by audiences. Case and point, at last month’s The WRLD on GCW, he was involved in a six-man lucha tag team match that many fans considered to be the match of the night. As The Collective draws closer, can the American-born luchador pick up a victory over the legendary Scorpio?
The Wizard King Vies for Gold
Also in action, at GCW Don’t Tell Me What to Do, is “The Wizard King” himself, Orin Veidt. Regarded as one of the most formidable deathmatch wrestlers in the world today, Veidt’s credentials speak for themselves. In Insane Championship Wrestling, for example, he is both a former 2x ICW Alternative Champion and World Champion. In fact, his second reign with the Alternative title lasted a staggering 671 days. Game Changer Wrestling fans may also remember Veidt for his appearances at not only specific events but tournaments as well, competing in Tournament of Survival and Nick Gage Invitational endurances alike. If there’s anyone fit to challenge for the GCW Ultraviolent Championship, it’s this man.
To win GCW gold for the first time won’t be easy, however, especially against a fellow deathmatch enthusiast as seasoned as Alex Colon. As a 2x GCW Ultraviolent Champion and 3x Tournament of Survival winner, there are few wrestlers that are emblematic of this wrestling style as “The Best of the Best.” He’s also shown that he isn’t hesitant to take things to the extreme to retain the gold. Case and point, earlier this year at GCW Most Notorious, Colon defended his title against Hoodfoot in the main event. Colon successfully retained the gold, but not without putting Hoodfoot through punishment, even pouring heaps of salt into the challenger’s open wounds. Veidt must anticipate that Colon will do the same, if necessary, on Sunday.
H8 Club Puts the Titles on the Line
The WRLD on GCW ended in many considered unexpected fashion. In the main event, The Briscoe Brothers held an open challenge for the GCW Tag Team Championship. Answering the call was the team of Matt Tremont and the returning Nick Gage, the two reforming The New H8 Club. Though this tag team contest ended sooner than fans would have expected, the result saw Tremont and Gage capturing the GCW tag team titles in front of a raucous Hammerstein Ballroom audience. Now known simply as H8 Club, Tremont and Gage stand atop the Game Changer Wrestling tag team scene. Former members of this long-standing indie wrestling group include Wifebeater and the late Nate Hatred and Justice Pain. At GCW Don’t Tell Me What to Do, Tremont and Gage defend their newly won titles for the first time.
This first defense won’t be a cakewalk, however, as it will be The Rejects vying for tag team gold. The team of John Wayne Murdoch and Reed Bentley have already etched their names in the promotion’s history books, too. In October of 2017, The Rejects captured the GCW Tag Team Championship in a three-way match against The Hooligans and then-titleholders Private Party at Worst Behavior. This doesn’t even begin to touch on the accolades The Rejects achieved in Unsanctioned Pro, IWA Mid-South, and elsewhere. If there’s any team to keep an eye on, as far as the GCW tag team title picture is concerned, it would be Murdoch and Bentley. At Don’t Tell Me What to Do, The Rejects have the opportunity to become 2x GCW Tag Team Champions. This will be a tag team encounter not to miss.
