#AndNEW: Matt Tremont and Nick Gage Win GCW Tag Team Championship

Matt Tremont Nick Gage GCW Tag Team Champions

The main event of The WRLD on GCW 2022 saw The Briscoe Brothers issue an open challenge for their GCW Tag Team Championship. Leading up to the event in question, fans speculated as to who would step up to take on Jay and Mark Briscoe. Would they be challenged by a favorite team within Game Changer Wrestling or would a team synonymous with a different promotion entirely step forward? The fans in attendance at The Hammerstein Ballroom, as well as those watching from home, received their answer. Stepping up to the GCW Tag Team Champions, The Briscoes, were the team of Matt Tremont and the returning Nick Gage. Together, as The New H8 Club, Tremont and Gage bested The Briscoes to become the new GCW Tag Team Champions.

What to Know Following The WRLD on GCW Main Event

Following his victory alongside Matt Tremont, Nick Gage took the mic to address the fans in attendance. The ring was slowly filled with GCW wrestlers and fans alike. Gage addressed his MDK, or Murder Death Kill, gang to close out the show from New York City.

As mentioned before, this match marked the return of Nick Gage. His last match took place this past October at GCW War Ready, where he took on New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Minoru Suzuki in a losing effort. Since then, he took time off to heal from injuries, as well as get his mind, body, and soul right. Meanwhile, Matt Tremont has remained a consistent presence in not only GCW but independent wrestling as a whole. His previous GCW took place at this past December’s Til Infinity, where he fell to then-Extreme Champion PCO.

More Information Regarding the New GCW Tag Team Champions

With this victory at The WRLD on GCW, Matt Tremont and Nick Gage have won the GCW Tag Team Championship for the first time in their respective careers. They are similar in that they are former GCW World Champions. Tremont captured the world title in February 2017, holding it for 294 days before losing it to, ironically enough, Gage. Meanwhile, Gage is a 2x GCW world titleholder, holding it for over 800 days collectively.

Longtime independent wrestling fans may know Tremont and Gage as The New H8 Club, which took form after Nate Hatred’s passing in 2018. Previously, the group featured Wifebeater and Justice Pain. As faction mates, Tremont and Gage teamed in organizations including Beyond Wrestling and GCW, their last match as a team dating back to December 2019’s Jimmy All the Way.
