Preview: AAA Héroes Inmortales XIV (10/9/21)

AAA Heroes Inmortales XIV

This Sunday, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide returns with their fourth and presumably, second to last special yearly event in the form of Héroes Inmortales XIV. This event was specially designed and named after the untimely death of AAA founder Antonio Peña back in 2007.

Every year, since 2007, members of the AAA roster have been able to win the prestigious and highly meaningful Copa Antonio Peña by winning a battle royal which usually features some of the biggest stars in the company.

This year, Héroes Inmortales comes back to our yearly schedule; last year, the pandemic prevented it from taking place. AAA Héroes Inmortales XIV features a steel cage match, two title matches, and the aforementioned cup destined to honor the life and work of Antonio Peña. Here’s what to expect.

AAA Héroes Inmortales XIV Card

Faby Apache, Mr. Iguana and Niño Hamburguesa vs. El Hijo del Tirantes, La Parka Negra and Super Fly

Firstly, the AAA Héroes Inmortales XIV match card presents the usual six-person mixed tag team match, this time in the form of Faby Apache, Mr. Iguana and Niño Hamburguesa taking on El Hijo del Tirantes, La Parka Negra and Super Fly.

This match is notable in the card as it features the rivalry between Faby Apache and heel referee Hijo del Tirantes that started all the way back in 2018. They finally reached an in-ring match following the various matches they had together in 2019. This was a few other matches the referee has had to actually justify a match against Faby.

Chessman, Pagano and Lady Shani vs. Abismo Negro Jr., Látigo and Chik Tormenta

The other classic AAA six-person tag team match will probably come later in the card as it features the team of Chessman, Pagano and Lady Shani taking on Abismo Negro Jr., Látigo and Chik Tormenta.

While this match may seem like one of the inconsequential matches in the show, it looks like it carries a little more relevance. Following their main event battle at last year’s TripleMania, and the angle where they continued to argue after their defeat to La Empresa at this year’s TripleMania, it is almost a certainty that Pagano and Chessman will end up fighting each other this Sunday. This, combined with the raw potential that the Abismo Negro and Látigo alliance brings to the table, makes this match one to look out for this weekend.

Copa Antonio Peña Match

While we already mentioned the coveted Copa Antonio Peña making its return on Sunday, it should be noted that only eight names have been announced for the match. While it will feature known stars like Aero Star and Pimpinela Escarlata, we can’t help but feel like, in pure AAA style, a surprise entrant will take the cup home.

AAA World Trios Championship: Los Mercenarios (Black Taurus, Rey Escorpión and La Hiedra) (c) vs. Los Jinetes del Aire (Octagón Jr., Myzteziz Jr., and Aramis)

In what will be the first of two title matches, AAA World Trios Champions Los Mercenarios  – Black Taurus, Rey Escorpión and La Hiedra – defend the gold they won back in May against the team they’ll once again face this Sunday: Los Jinetes del Aire.

The aforementioned match we saw back in May saw different versions from both teams. Texano Jr. was a part of Los Mercenarios from the start of the group. Los Jinetes replaced Hijo del Vikingo, who will be competing later on the show with Aramis, a more than suitable replacement. These changes in both teams should not be looked at as if they will negatively impact the match or the dynamic with the teams themselves. Aramis will have no problem filling Vikingo’s shoes and Los Mercenarios won’t miss Texano in the ring with the explosiveness of La Hiedra.

AAA World Tag Team Championship: Los Lucha Bros (Fénix and Pentagón Jr.) (c) vs. Los Jinetes del Aire (Hijo del Vikingo and Laredo Kid)

The other set of titles that will be defended in Veracruz this Sunday will be the AAA World Tag Team Championship. All Elite Wrestling stars Los Lucha Bros will put their AAA tag titles on the line against the other members of Los Jinetes del Aire in Hijo del Vikingo and Laredo Kid.

We don’t need to tell you why this is one of the matches to watch in the card. It features probably the four fastest and most exciting wrestlers in the AAA roster. It also serves as yet another showcase for the Lucha Brothers, who clearly are two of the most popular stars in the company, and for Vikingo and Laredo, who both are rumored to start wrestling regularly in the United States.

El Nuevo Poder del Norte (Carta Brava Jr, Mocho Cota Jr, and Tito Santana) vs. Nueva Generación Dinamita (El Cuatrero, Sansón, and Forastero)

In the second to last match in the card, El Nuevo Poder del Norte defend their ground against the invading Nueva Generación Dinamita, who made their debuts two months ago at TripleMania following their departure from CMLL. The invading group attacked Carta Brava Jr, Mocho Cota Jr, and Tito Santana.

We’ve sung the praises of El Cuatrero, Sansón, and Forastero before. However, since this is their first major match for AAA, this is the absolute perfect setting for them to showcase what made them such hot commodities to sign from CMLL. It will also illustrate why their mix of knowledge passed on from their illustrious family, experience from their time in Arena México, and youth due to being under 30 is the perfect recipe for their success in AAA.

Steel Cage Trios Match: Los Psycho Circus (Psycho Clown, Monster Clown, and Murder Clown) vs. La Empresa (Puma King, Sam Adonis, and DMT Azul)

Finally, we have what will probably main event the show as the main event faction of Los Psycho Circus defend AAA’s honor against the also invading faction of La Empresa in a Steel Cage Trios Match.

This main event match may also seem inconsequential, with no real major stakes. The interesting aspect of the match comes when considering ever since the arrival of La Empresa, they have not lost a single match. As they face the clown trio this weekend, La Empresa will also face their toughest challenge to date and what looks to be the end of their impressive debut run.

Another thing that makes this match interesting is the slew of possibilities for future main event singles matches, specifically for Psycho Clown as he has been the AAA head of the table for the past few years. Additionally, Sam Adonis looks like someone AAA would love to book in a Mexico vs. USA storyline against their biggest star in Psycho Clown.
