On tonight’s edition of SmackDown, which marked the beginning of the 2021 WWE Draft, World Wrestling Entertainment had another major announcement. It was confirmed that, starting next week on SmackDown, the Queen’s Crown Tournament and King of the Ring will take place. While the latter is well-known as WWE’s long-standing tournament featuring men’s Superstars, the former is a new concept, pitting the company’s various women’s Superstars against one another. Further details are expected as we move closer to next week’s SmackDown.

Queen’s Crown Tournament
As stated earlier, the Queen’s Crown Tournament is a new concept by WWE. It will feature women’s Superstars in a single-elimination tournament. Rumors have been buzzing regarding a women’s tournament in WWE since late August. It was reported that WWE filed a trademark for “Queen’s Crown Tournament” on the 27th before entering the trademark database on the 30th. Expect more information about this women’s tournament in the days to come.
King of the Ring Tournament
Meanwhile, the King of the Ring is WWE’s long-running tournament that, despite popular demand from fans, hasn’t taken place since 2015. During this year, Bad News Barrett won the tournament by defeating Neville, becoming known as King Barrett from there. The tournament began life in 1985, with the inaugural tournament being won by Don Muraco. In the years that followed, many other notable names claimed the throne. These include, but aren’t limited to, Harley Race, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Bret Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and Brock Lesnar.
It was also rumored that the finals of both tournaments will take place on October 21, at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, though it remains to be seen whether this will be the case.
