Earlier this month, at Game Changer Wrestling‘s The Art of War Games, Tony Deppen picked up a victory over Allie Katch. Following the match, Deppen took the mic, addressing Ron Funches, who was providing commentary for the show. Funches, an actor and comedian known for his work on BoJack Horseman, Adventure Time, and other productions, previously made comments regarding Deppen online and on Busted Open. Funches stepped into the ring to confront Deppen, who proceeded to strike him across the face. This resulted in a brawl between the two parties, which was ultimately broken up by various GCW personnel. Today, the company confirmed that at GCW Highest in the Room on September 17, Ron Funches would step in the ring for a match against Tony Deppen.

Ron Funches is no stranger to the wrestling business. In addition to his aforementioned commentary work, he also served as a ring announcer on an independent level. However, it must be noted that he is not a professional wrestler. On WWE After the Bell hosted by Corey Graves, Funches revealed that he pursued professional wrestling, though he quit after 3 months into training. Seldom does Game Changer Wrestling involve non-wrestlers in matches, which makes this particular bout all the more newsworthy. Despite the obvious experience disparity between the two, Funches has not backed down from his challenge.

At GCW Highest in the Room, Funches takes on a formidable opponent in Tony Deppen. The latter can be seen on Ring of Honor programming, where he is a former ROH World Television Champion. In addition, he is part of the VLNCE UNLTD faction, where he’s joined by Homicide, Brody King, and fellow GCW regular Chris Dickinson. This doesn’t even begin to touch on his accomplishments in other organizations, TRUE Wrestling and CHIKARA included.
