#3. Goldberg (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33
For years, fans had clamored for a rematch between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg after the infamous debacle at WrestleMania 20. The WWE Universe finally got its wish at Survivor Series 2016, but no one was expecting such an epic twist. After 12 years away from the ring, Goldberg returned to stun Lesnar in under two minutes.
The goal was always to have Lesnar go over and remove the blemish from his record. However, WWE made the questionable move of making Goldberg the Universal Champion. The Hall of Famer crushed Kevin Owens to win the belt, setting the stage for a final clash with the Beast Incarnate.
At WrestleMania 33, WWE had a tough task since they had to manage the fans’ resentment and keep a tired crowd invested. Fortunately, they booked one of the most enjoyable championship matches in recent memory. Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar III was much better than it had any right to be.
It was the ultimate shot of adrenaline. The champion came out of the box hot, Speared Lesnar through the barricade, and hit the Jackhammer. But, Lesnar wasn’t going to go down easily as the crowd cheered the Beast on with great zeal. In an impressive feat of athleticism, Lesnar leapfrogged over Goldberg to dodge the Spear.
From there on, it was all Lesnar. The Conqueror took his rival to Suplex City, obliterating Goldberg in the process. He put the champion away with the F5, winning the Universal Championship in an epic clash and defeating one of his greatest adversaries.
