Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Mike Santana retained the TNA World title at TNA Genesis despite Nic Nemeth's attempt to cash in his Call Your Shot chance.

TNA Genesis 2026 (01/17/26) – Review with Match Ratings

Joe Hendry vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Moose (4/5)

Quite strangely, it was one of the best matches of the night. We understood immediately that Joe Hendry would win. Then, Cedric Alexander and Moose nailed it with some huge spots. Moose ate the stairs and hurt his back. Despite the X sign, he came back to the match and was heroic. Alexander showed impressive strength; he also hit a Styles Clash.

Hendry more or less stole the win, even if you don’t want to believe me. He becomes the #1 contender for the TNA X-Division title, something I can’t understand. The guy left TNA to go to WWE NXT to come back to TNA, with the hope of being a TNA Champion. Honestly, after that, you would want me to believe in Joe Hendry? Nygma says, Never.

TNA World Title Texas Death Match (Special Referee: Nic Nemeth) – Mike Santana (c) vs. Frankie Kazarian (4/5)

A Deathmatch is all I love. With Nic Nemeth as the referee, we knew, even before the match, that something would happen (which explains the 4 out of 5). We had a nice array of toys: tables, chairs, ladders, garbage bins, and trash cans. Even Barbie made its appearance. Then, no tacks, no salt, no citrus juice, no staple gun. That was hardcore, but not deathmatch style.

Neither Kazarian nor Santana held back. They fought everywhere (the spots in the crowd could have turned into a disaster). The piledriver through the chairs was stunning, like the Cutter through a table. The Papi Splash from the top of the ladder cut Kazarian in two. I loved this match, even if, as expected, Nemeth attacked Santana. He tried to call his shot, but Santana hit a Spin The Block. Nemeth still has a chance to cash in, and I forever believe in Boricua.

That’s all for the TNA Genesis 2026 review. Till our weekly NXT and TNA Wrestling “rendezvous,” may the Nygma be with you.
