AEW Collision Preview (1/24/26) – CMLL World and TBS Championship Defenses

Last-minute changes due to a winter storm bringing snow and ice to Arlington’s Esports Arena mean AEW Collision this week is being diverted to Orlando, Florida. The TNT Championship match between Mark Briscoe and El Clone has been moved to next week’s Dynamite. However, in its place, the TBS Championship will be defended in a historic rematch. The CMLL championship match remains on the card.

Additional new matches will see the return of Billy Gunn teaming with his son, Austin Gunn, against Protoshita. AEW Women’s World champion, Kris Statlander, takes on a Collision regular, Dawn. Like Mya World and Hyan, it feels like it will be a matter of time until Dawn gets her graphic. Former AEW World Champion, Hangman Adam Page, takes on the Wrestler and Opps member, Katsuyori Shibata, and more.

TBS Championship Rematch

The Triangle of Madness, still driven by their trio’s victory from two Dynamites ago, has made their title intentions for gold clear. On Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Thekla faces Kris Statlander. However, Sister of Sin and a former TBS Champion, Julia Hart, wants Willow Nightingale one-on-one.

This match has history. Willow Nightingale won her first AEW TBS Championship by beating Julia Hart at Double or Nothing 2024. After losing out on the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship, Hart is seeking a consolation prize from her former and current rival.

Neither woman is the same wrestler. Nightingale, in 2024, was still fighting and clawing to convert fan support into a stable and higher position on the women’s division pecking order. Today, Nightingale has not only established herself as one of the best in the division and a most loved performer in either locker room.

Nightingale is a double champion, which brings its own risks. On the other hand, Hart has found solidarity with sisters, which has only intensified her mean streak.

With Statlander also on the card and the prospect of Harley Cameron, as well as Skye Blue at ringside, this may not be a clean contest. That’s without considering whether The Toxic Spider might try to influence the outcome. To test the newly reformed friendship of the AEW TBS and AEW Women’s World champions.

CMLL World Championship: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Roderick Strong

Roderick Strong won the right to challenge for Claudio Castagnoli’s championship after defeating Hechicero in his CMLL debut. This rivalry is two-way and personal. Beyond Strong fighting for his injured tag partner, Kyle O’Reilly, Strong has been looking for months to find himself.

It was during the Continental Classic that Strong tried to find himself. Yet loss after loss crushed him. Strong refused help. However, his victory over Claudio Castagnoli makes this match personal for the Swiss Superman. It’s The Messiah of the Backbreaker’s fault for the third year in a row that Castagnoli didn’t make it out of the group stages. Whilst the two have clashed in multi-person action, this contest gives both men a chance to exercise their demons.

Can Strong become a world champion once again? Or will Castagnoli get backpay? As for the larger issues between Strong, The Conglomeration, Death Riders, and The Don Callis Family, what’s next?
