The 1992 Royal Rumble Final Four and What Each Man Did at WrestleMania 8

With a tear in my eye, this is the greatest moment of my life.

This legendary sentence alone is enough to send chills down the spine of millions of pro wrestling fans. It’s one of the many reasons why the 1992 Royal Rumble Match is still considered one of the best Rumble Matches of all time by many fans, even all these years later.

Macho Man Ended Up Winning The WWF Championship At WrestleMania 8

Randy Savage spent most of 1991 out of the ring after losing to The Ultimate Warrior in a Retirement Match at WrestleMania 7. Thus, WWF fans were excited to see what Macho Man would do at Royal Rumble 1992 after a brief (yet explosive) feud with Jake “The Snake” Roberts.

Savage tossed his rival out of the Rumble, which had to feel good. Macho Man also got rid of Colonel Mustafa aka The Iron Sheik, and made it to the Final Four when newly-crowned Intercontinental Champion Roddy Piper got eliminated by Sid Justice. However, this wasn’t meant to be Savage’s night, and he got eliminated by both Sid and Flair a few moments later.

What Did Randy Savage Do At WrestleMania 8? Long story short, Randy Savage walked out of Indianapolis, Indiana’s Hoosier Dome (the home of that year’s WrestleMania) with the World Wrestling Federation Championship. Not only did Macho Man win his second WWF Championship, he did so after beating Ric Flair in an all-time classic.

A few weeks after winning the vacant title at the Royal Rumble, The Dirtiest Player In The Game thought it’d be a good idea to get in Randy Savage’s mind, infamously claiming Miss Elizabeth “was mine before she was yours”. That was all the motivation Macho Man needed, setting the stage for one of the most intense and personal title matches in the entire history of WrestleMania.
