John Cena vs. Gunther
The last time is now, ladies and gentlemen. John Cena calls it an illustrious and legendary career as he takes on the “Ring General” Gunther in his final match ever. Gunther would come out first with a chorus of boos raining down on him.
The Capital One Arena came unglued when John Cena’s music hit, with the crowd singing along. Lilian Garcia, who nearly broke out in tears, made a heartfelt announcement of the name of John Cena for one final time as the bell rang one last time on the in-ring career of the “G.O.A.T.”
Cena did everything in his power in a stellar matchup against a monster he had never faced before. Cena pulled out all the stops, Shoulder Blocks, Spin-out Powerbombs, Five-Knuckle Shuffles, multiple Attitude Adjustments, an Avalanche AA, an AA through the announcer’s table, and even locking in Gunther in STF-U at the beginning of the match.
Unfortunately, Gunther was too much for even the mighty John Cena to overcome.
Gunther was cold and methodical throughout, practically playing with his food. Even when Cena mustered a comeback, Gunther would put a stop to it immediately. Multiple German Suplexes, Powerbombs, and even a crushing Splash, the Ring General threw everything at Cena.
For multiple minutes at a time, Gunther would lock in the Sleeper Hold, but Cena would not give up. But even “Super Cena” himself has a limit. On the very final attempt of Gunther, with the Sleeper Hold locked in and all his weight on Cena’s neck, John, with a smile on his face, knew he had to submit, and he did.
It was heartbreaking, but Cena showed why he is the greatest, bar none, to ever do it in WWE. Deservingly so, the entire WWE locker room would spill out into the arena, including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, who would hand over their titles to the “Last Real Champion,” honoring him in the biggest way.
WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque would thank and congratulate John, as he pointed to a screen where a tribute video that showcased his career was playing. John Cena would walk up the ramp for one final time in his career, thanking everyone and walking off into the sunset.
WWE Universe, that’s a wrap for the absolute “Greatest of All-Time,” John Cena.
Thank you, Cena.
