The NXT Deadline opening bout between Ricky Saints and Oba Femi delivered in more ways than one on Saturday night for the NXT Championship. Femi has been on the hunt for months to regain the title he sees as his, after losing it to Saints at NXT No Mercy back in September. Apart from the title, there was also a big opportunity at stake that would take place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, and both men fought like it was their last.
Unfortunately for Saints, Oba Femi had a lot of firepower on this night, and was hellbent on regaining back the NXT Championship, as well as be the one to face Cody Rhodes.
Oba Femi was undeniable tonight and would not give an inch to Saints despite the onslaught of the “Absolute One”, leading him to become the #AndNEW NXT Champion for the second time in his career. Saints, to his credit, kicked out of the Fall from Grace once to stun the monster. However, a second Fall from Grace was too much for even Ricky to withstand.
After an intense match that took everything from both men, Oba Femi now turns his attention to next weekend, because there really is no rest for the wicked. Femi will face off against WWE’s “top guy,” QB1, the “American Nightmare” and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
As most would know, these two have been at the top of their respective brands for the better part of three years. However, on Saturday night, they represent themselves in a bid to see who really is the most dominant champion in WWE.

For Oba Femi, this is the opportunity of a lifetime to prove to everyone that he really is “that guy,” on a night where “the guy” in WWE retires. As for Cody, in spite of being the best WWE has to offer, Rhodes’ fighting spirit will never die, no matter how far he’s gotten in his illustrious professional wrestling career.
