Josh Briggs Picks Up Big Win on WWE NXT (9/9/25)

The past couple of weeks have been career-changing for Josh Briggs. A heel turn has led to some head-turning victories. He defeated Yoshiki Inamura in the Philadelphia Street Fight and took down Andre Chase with ease. Sandwiched in the middle, though, was a loss against Ricky Saints for a chance at Oba Femi’s NXT Championship. That same week, Je’Von Evans lost to Femi in a great match at Heatwave.

On the September 2, 2025 episode of NXT, Briggs confronted Evans, jealous about his opportunities and career so far. Their meeting led to Briggs slamming Evans onto a steel chair. Furious, Evans wanted a match with Briggs, which would take place the following week. Which man ended up the victor in the fight?

The September 9, 2025 episode of NXT started off with a bang. Evans demanded the fight, so they were the first match of the night. These two men were both angry at the same thing. Losing to Oba Femi for the NXT Championship sparked a fire in both of them. They took their misfortune out on each other, resulting in the match. Both men needed the victory in their own way.

Briggs’ new attitude has made him rise up the ladder in the men’s division. Beating Evans would further signify his place as a potential title holder. Evans put his body on the line at Heatwave, but was unable to capture the NXT Championship for himself. Winning against Briggs would re-instill in himself the belief that one day he could become NXT Champion.

The match started out even, with both men doing their best to get the pin. But as Briggs has done the past couple of weeks, the new heel side of him appeared to give himself the advantage. He attempted to use a chair against Evans, but the official noticed it and threw it out of the ring. Then, he took the chain around his neck off while the official wasn’t looking and wrapped around his hand. Evans went up to the top rope, jumped, then got hit with the chain. He quickly got the pin, securing the victory for himself.

It seems his heel ways have been working well for him, as he walked away with a very important victory. For Evans, he has to deal with another loss against a strong competitor. But this win was very important for Briggs. If he continues getting these wins, another NXT title shot could be his sooner rather than later.
