The WWE Universe is expecting another heated war of words between Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and Cody Rhodes before their Street Fight championship match at WWE SummerSlam 2025. However, John Cena would immediately shut down these assumptions.

On this week’s WWE SmackDown, Cena would say that he told Cody that he was exhausted to have this match at SummerSlam. However, he coerced him and beat him down to make him sign the contract, and Cena thanks him for it, calling it the boost he needed to be himself again. Cena was apologetic, stating that he bought into a cause that was brought up by other people who left him in the dust.
What happened between him and Cody Rhodes last week was the catalyst for him to be himself again, telling the WWE Universe that they should mark down August 1st, 2025, as the day that John Cena officially came back to WWE, and that if he wants some at WWE SummerSlam, he can get some.
Cody Rhodes only has one phrase to say to him, and that’s welcome back, before they toasted a few beers, and Rhodes left, and John Cena would celebrate with the WWE Universe.
John Cena had a change of heart. And he’s coming into WWE SummerSlam 2025, not for a match, but for a fight. As Wade Barrett put it, we thought it would be another rouse from Cena. However, it might be genuine this time, with a strong emphasis on the “might.”
