NJPW New Beginning in Osaka Highlights

El Desperado & Katsuya Murashima vs. United Empire (Francesco Akira & Jeff Cobb)

El Desperado and Francesco Akira’s feud was put in the spotlight in this match. Ultimately, United Empire picks up the victory, and Akira has momentum going into his title match against Desperado at the NJPW 53rd Anniversary Show.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Togi Makabe

Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final run is truly upon us, and this is the latest chapter in that final ride. With the history that Tanashi and Togi Makabe have, it was only fitting that the two clash one final time, and they did not disappoint with this match. Tanahashi picks up the victory, and the two show mutual respect through sportsmanship.

Shingo Takagi vs. Drilla Moloney

This was such a hard-hitting and intense match. Shingo Takagi and Drilla Moloney have undeniable chemistry, and they match each other’s intensity well. Moloney picked up the win, and this was a great showcase for why he deserves a spot in the 2025 New Japan Cup tournament.

Shota Umino vs. Great-O-Khan

Great-O-Khan brought a high level of brutality to this match, and Shota Umino found himself on the receiving end of that. By the end of it, Umino was so broken down and Great-O-Khan quickly picked up the victory. Following the match, Great-O-Khan went to cut Umino’s hair but Umino stopped him, just to end up cutting his own hair.

Taichi vs. SANADA

What a chaotic match! The beef between Just 4 Guys and Bullet Club War Dogs came alive here and, after a couple of low-blows (real and fake), SANADA ultimately picks up the win. As SANADA was about to attack Taichi post-match, Yuya Uemura made his triumphant return.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match: Ichiban Sweet Boys (Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita) (c) vs. CHAOS (Rocky Romero & YOH)

Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita had a successful defense of their IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against CHAOS’ Rocky Romero and YOH. This was quite an exciting tag team match, and it surely set the pace for the Ichiban Sweet Boys’ reign. After the match, Taiji Ishimori came out to challenge the champions.

NEVER Openweight Championship Match: Konosuke Takeshita (c) vs. Boltin Oleg

Konosuke Takeshita is one of the best wrestlers in the world right now, and he continuously proves that. At New Beginning in Osaka, he defended his NEVER Openweight Championship against Boltin Oleg, which was quite the test for the champion. Ultimately, Takeshita retained but he already has his next challenger lined up.

IWGP Tag Team Championship Match: The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) (c) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi)

The Young Bucks returned to Japan to defend the IWGP Tag Team Championship they won at Wrestle Dynasty. Doing so against LIJ’s Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi was never going to be an easy feat. This was a great tag team showcase, and it ended with Naito and Takahashi now reigning as the champions.

IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship Match: Yota Tsuji (c) vs. Gabe Kidd

On paper, this was already a great match and, when they got into the ring, Yota Tsuji and Gabe Kidd executed it perfectly. This was one of the best matches of the entire event, and the two showed their strength and will. It ended with a double knockout, with Tsuji retaining.

EVIL Returns

EVIL returned, alongside Dick Togo. They attacked both Tsuji and Kidd. EVIL then took to the mic to announce that the War Dogs have been excommunicated from Bullet Club.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Hirooki Goto

Zack Sabre Jr.’s reign as the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion comes to an end at 120 days. For the first time in his 17-year-long career, Hirooki Goto claimed NJPW’s top championship. This came after quite an emotional and hard-hitting match.
