WWE NXT Recap (10/10/23) – The Biggest NXT Show In History

The Undertaker appearing on an episode of WWE NXT.

WWE NXT this week was promoted as the biggest night in NXT history. Several main roster talent appeared on the show, interacting with the current NXT roster. The show had no shortage of major moments, across the entire show. The build-up to Halloween Havoc also continues. Here are the main talking points from the October 10 NXT.

Cody Rhodes Announces Return Of Two Tournaments

Cody Rhodes kicked off the October 10 edition of NXT and, instead of just one major announcement, ‘The American Nightmare’ had a few things to share with the NXT Universe. First, Rhodes announced the return of the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, which will commence following the women’s tournament completion.

The last NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament took place in 2021, with former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes winning that competition en-route to joining the championship ranks of NXT.

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament was also confirmed to take place this year. In previous years, the tournament has reached its completion in the early months of the year but, for the 2023 edition, it will happen later in the year. Rhodes made these announcements but, in addition to that, he confirmed that he would be the special guest general manager for the October 10 NXT.

Carmelo Hayes And Bron Breakker Reignite Their Rivalry

Carmelo Hayes and Bron Breakker renewed their rivalry on the October 10 WWE NXT in a hard-hitting match-up. Both former champions in their own right, Hayes and Breakker found themselves being flanked by greatness as they had John Cena and Paul Heyman in their respective corners for the match.

To bump up the stakes of this match-up, it was determined that the winner would go on to feature in a number one contender triple threat match on the October 17 WWE NXT.

The match was as hard-hitting as many expected it to be, with Breakker predominantly being the aggressor. As the match was reaching it’s close, Breakker and Heyman attempted to distract the referee but Cena balanced out the odds. This led to Hayes coming out the victor in this match-up, and he now finds himself with a chance to reclaim the NXT Championship.

Breakker delivered a post-match beatdown but the final surprise of this card revealed itself as The Undertaker made his presence felt. Following an exchange of words, The Undertaker beat down Breakker before assisting Hayes to his feet.

‘Dirty’ Dom Dares To Step Up To Ilja Dragunov

‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio looked to bring more gold to The Judgement Day camp by challenging newly-minted NXT Champion, Ilja Dragunov, to a match. This was agreed upon but the special guest general manager Rhodes, being a little too familiar with The Judgement Day’s antics, decided to even the playing field by introducing LA Knight as the special guest referee for the match-up.

Dragunov, in the mood to celebrate his birthday in style, dominated the majority of the match but Mysterio continuously survived. As the odds stacked up against Mysterio, the rest of The Judgement Day attempted to get involved and ensure they pulled off a massive upset.

With an assist from Knight and Trick Williams, Mysterio would ultimately fail to capture the NXT Championship. But the challengers for Dragunov are stacking up regardless.
