The Greatest WrestleMania Rematches Held at WWE SummerSlam

SummerSlam is still more than 3 weeks away, but WWE has already confirmed its top matches. Among the most highly anticipated clashes is Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar III, with the Ruler and the Beast Incarnate tied at one win apiece. They will settle the score inside Hell in a Cell.

As fans will recall, Lesnar and Femi delivered an instant classic that opened WrestleMania 42 Sunday. Their rubber match at SummerSlam 2026 is part of a growing trend of revisiting Mania rivalries on the company’s second biggest event. These rematches evolve beyond the Show of Shows with higher stakes and fresh stipulations.

On that note, let’s look at the best WrestleMania rematches from SummerSlam history.

#5/4. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar Ran it Back at SummerSlam 2018 and 2022

As two of Vince McMahon’s favorite pets, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns’ rivalry spanned years, which included several bouts at WrestleMania and SummerSlam. In 2018, Lesnar defeated Reigns in an underwhelming main event at Mania 34 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Four months later, the Big Dog finally toppled the Beast to win the Universal Championship. It was a vast improvement from their bout earlier in the year at Mania. History would repeat itself in 2022.

In “The Biggest WrestleMania Match of All Time” at AT&T Stadium, the Tribal Chief conquered Lesnar to unify the WWE and Universal Championships. This should have been the final chapter in their epic feud, but the company booked a Last Man Standing match between the two titans at SummerSlam 2022.

Their Last Man Standing match was legendary, with many considering it their greatest match together. The Tribal Chief, with the help of the Usos, put away Lesnar for the count of 10.

#3. Seth Rollins Slayed the Beast Twice in 2019

The red version of the Universal Championship is synonymous with Brock Lesnar. Two months after dethroning Lesnar at SummerSlam, Roman Reigns was forced to relinquish the title due to a leukemia diagnosis. The vacated championship soon fell on the broad shoulders of the Beast Incarnate at Crown Jewel 2018.

It looked as if Lesnar was set for another long reign. Fortunately, Seth Rollins, the 2019 Men’s Royal Rumble winner, had other plans. Rollins became the “Beast Slayer” at WrestleMania 35. With the help of a few low blows, he defeated Lesnar in controversial fashion. While that should have been the end of their feud, WWE extended the saga beyond Mania 35.

Lesnar won the Money in the Bank contract and successfully cashed in on Rollins to regain the Universal Championship. The Conqueror had a brief reign as the “Beast Slayer” came for him at SummerSlam. This was one of the former Shield member’s most heroic performances.

Rollins had his waist heavily taped, but he wouldn’t go down at Brooklyn Center. With a plethora of Superkicks, Frog Splashes, and Stomps, the Beast Slayer conquered Lesnar again at SummerSlam 2019. However, this time around, the win was absolutely clean.
