#AndNew: Christopher Daniels and Swerve Strickland Capture Defy Tag Team Championship

Christopher Daniels DEFY World Champion

Future opponents Swerve Strickland and Interim Defy World Champion Christopher Daniels put their differences aside to defeat The Bollywood Boyz (Gurv and Harv Sihra) for the Defy World Tag Team Championship, ending their five-month reign.

Swerve Strickland & Chris Daniels Win DEFY Gold

The win continues the incredible momentum both men have as Daniels has been on a dominant run, not just in Defy but also in New Japan Strong, where he and partner Yuya Uemura are set to take part in the Strong Openweight Tag Team Tournament Final.

For Swerve, this is the second tag team title he’s captured this week as he and partner Keith Lee became AEW World Tag Team Champions after defeating reigning champions the Young Bucks and Team Taz’ Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs.

It will be interesting to see how well this alliance holds up, but the potential match-ups are enough to excite anyone for their reign. A rematch with The Bollywood Boyz could easily be in the cards, but there’s also the threat of former champions Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl and Ricky Gibson).

They could look to add to their collection and face Prestige Tag Team Champions/Defy standouts C4 (“Classic” Cody Chhun & Guillermo Rosas). The match-up with C4 is the one that excites this writer the most, as Daniels and Chhun put on one of the best matches in Defy’s history back in 2018.

Of course, given both Swerve and Daniels are under AEW contracts, that could easily be enough to gain the attention of FTR, which would fit well with FTR going after every promotional title they can.

No matter what, it’s a title change that leads to so many potentially wonderful possibilities!
