#AndNEW: Cameron Grimes Wins NXT North American Championship at Stand & Deliver

Cameron Grimes NXT North American Champion

The NXT Stand & Deliver event proper opened with a fatal five-way ladder match for the NXT North American Championship. In this match, reigning champion Carmelo Hayes defended his title against Solo Sikoa, Santos Escobar, Grayson Waller, and Cameron Grimes. Keep in mind that this was the second title match of the night, the first taking place during the pre-show when Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship for the second time. This wasn’t where title changes ended, however. Emerging victorious, Cameron Grimes climbed the ladder and captured the NXT North American Championship.

What to Know Following Major Title Change at Stand & Deliver

With this victory, Cameron Grimes captured his first sanctioned championship in NXT and WWE as a whole. At NXT TakeOver 36 this past August, Grimes defeated LA Knight to become the Million Dollar Champion. During this time, Ted DiBiase reinstated the Million Dollar title, looking for someone new to carry on his “Million Dollar legacy.” Shortly after his victory, Grimes bid farewell to DiBiase, returning the title to the legendary star.

This match also ends the mark of Carmelo Hayes’s NXT North American Championship reign. He first captured the gold this past October following a victory over Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. Since then, alongside Trick Williams, Hayes held onto the gold against a variety of opponents. Such successful title defenses included matches against Pete Dunne, Johnny Gargano, and Roderick Strong, the latter of whom Hayes faced to unify the NXT Cruiserweight and North American titles.
