Mickie James, Summer Rae, and Others Return for the Women’s Royal Rumble

One of the most surprising names announced for this year’s Women’s Royal Rumble is Mickie James. One of the reasons for this is that she is active for another company. To be more specific, she is the current Knockouts Champion for IMPACT Wrestling, having made her return to said promotion in July 2021. It’s also worth noting that she had been vocal about WWE following her release the April prior, even claiming that her belongings were returned to her in a trash bag. Not only did other former WWE talent echo her sentiments, but Stephanie McMahon reached out, offering a public apology.

Another name that took the wrestling world aback by Summer Rae, who was released from WWE in October 2017. Prior to this, she had been with the company since 2011, working in multiple roles during her time with the company. She served as ring announcer, manager, and in-ring competitor alike. From forming a faction with Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair on NXT to working alongside Fandango and Rusev on the main roster, Rae played multiple roles during her stint with WWE.
