Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Mickie James, Other WWE Superstars Released

Samoa Joe WWE release

On Thursday, WWE announced that they had come to terms on the releases of Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Mickie James, Chelsea Green, Kalisto, Bo Dallas, Tucker, Mojo Rawley, and Wesley Blake. April 15, 2020, was the same day that WWE announced releases last year that included the likes of Kurt Angle, EC3, and Deonna Purrazzo.

Here’s the official announcement by WWE:

The news comes days after WrestleMania 37. Both Samoa Joe and Billie Kay were major parts of that show, as Joe was one of the commentators for both days while Billie Kay tagged with Carmella in the Tag Team Turmoil match on night one. It was announced on Monday that Joe had been taken off of the commentary table and was going to be a part of the WWE talent roster moving forward.

Peyton Royce’s last match with the company came on the March 22 edition of Raw, where she lost to Raw Women’s Champion Asuka. The match had come about based on her comments on Raw Talk, where she demanded an opportunity that she was not getting.

Mickie James’ last appearance for the company was on the NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver pre-shows, where she commentated the match between Toni Storm and Zoey Stark, as well as gave her analysis of the NXT Women’s Championship match between Io Shirai and Raquel Gonzalez.

Kalisto and Tucker both competed in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on WrestleMania SmackDown. Wesley Blake has not competed since Money in the Bank in 2020, while Bo Dallas hasn’t competed since 2019.
