Alex Shelley Announced for PWG Battle of Los Angeles 2022

Alex Shelley

Earlier this week, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla began announcing participants for its upcoming Battle of Los Angeles 2022 tournament. The first, which was confirmed on December 6, was none other than Jonah Rock. It’s fair to expect that announcements will be consistently made before the tournament on January 29 and 30. It’s now been made official – entering this year’s PWG BOLA is none other than Alex Shelley. This marks Shelley’s third BOLA throughout his wrestling career.

What to Know About the Detroit-Born Indie Veteran

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Alex Shelley is no stranger to the Battle of Los Angeles. He’s a 2x competitor, having taken part in the tournament in 2007 and 2009. The former was especially impressive, as he made it to the semifinals before ultimately falling to Roderick Strong. Having been away from the tournament for over a decade, Shelley amassed considerable experience since then. In fact, heading into this year’s BOLA, it’s fair to expect that he will either go far or even win the entire tournament.

Alex Shelley has seen something of a career renaissance over the past couple of years, competing in a number of independent organizations and achieving success along the way. Warrior Wrestling, Black Label Pro, Ring of Honor, and IMPACT Wrestling are just a few places he competed in since 2020. However, his matches proved to be more than opportunities for the independent wrestling veteran to make money. This past October, he captured the IWTV Independent Wrestling World Championship from Wheeler Yuta. In BLP, he held the Midwest Championship for 335 days, becoming the longest-reigning titleholder in history. Furthermore, he won the promotion’s 2020 Turbo Graps 16 tournament. Suffice to say, it’s fair to say that he has solid experience heading into this year’s BOLA.
