#AndNEW: Chon Shiryu Becomes Interim Super Asia Champion

Chon Shiryu Interim Super Asia Champion

ChocoPro #170 was capped off with a four-way main event with high stakes in place. The winner of this match would be declared the interim Super Asia Champion. The current Super Asia titleholder, Minoru Fujita, is currently recovering following COVID-19 complications. With Fujita absent for the time being, it was decided that a new singles champion would be crowned in Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling. Baliyan Akki, Masahiro Takanashi, Yuna Mizumori, and Chon Shiryu faced off in an incredibly competitive main event. By the closing bell, Chon Shiryu was crowned the interim Super Asia Champion.

The match concluded when Shiryu, from the Ichigaya Chocolate Square windowsill, executed a Coffin Drop on Akki. One three-count later and Shiryu won the match and the interim Super Asia Championship. Following his victory, Shiryu was approached by an exhausted Yuna Mizumori. It would seem that the new interim titleholder already has a challenger in Gatoh Move’s “Pineapple Girl.” It’s also worth noting that, with this victory as interim champion, Shiryu will eventually face fellow Super Asia titleholder Minoru Fujita; the winner of this match will be declared the undisputed champion.

Chon Shiryu Crowned Interim Super Asia Champion

With this victory, Chon Shiryu has become only the third-ever Super Asia Champion in the history of Gatoh Move. The second, and technically current, titleholder is Minoru Fujita. On Day of 2 ChocoPro #100, Fujita won the revived title by defeating current Asia Dream Tag Team Champion Baliyan Akki. Prior to this, the Super Asia title was inactive since June 2019. Its inaugural champion, Riho, won it in September 2017. It’s also worth noting that Riho made her All Elite Wrestling debut, at Double or Nothing 2019, while wearing the title on her shoulder.

Skilled in Kung Fu and professional wrestling alike, Chon Shiryu has become a routine competitor on ChocoPro. He appeared for Gatoh Move as far back as 2012, working with Masahiro Takanashi, Hiroyo Matsumoto, company founder Emi Sakura, and many others. He may also be familiar to those that watch promotions such as Ice Ribbon and DDT Pro-Wrestling, as he’s appeared for events for both organizations. Other accolades Shiryu earned include 4 DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship and 2 Triangle Ribbon Championship reigns.
