#AndNEW: The New Day Win RAW Tag Team Championship

The New Day RAW Tag Team Championship

Earlier tonight, on Monday Night RAW, Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Business defended the RAW Tag Team Championship against Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, The New Day. To say that these two groups have been at odds would be an understatement. Furthermore, they’ve provided a unique contrast, pitting the colorful and playful presentation of The New Day against the straight-laced demeanor of The Hurt Business. By the end of the match, The Hurt Business found themselves one championship down. For the fourth time, The New Day are the new RAW Tag Team Champions. This accolade is especially noteworthy for Kingston; alongside Edge, he now holds a record-setting 14 tag team titles in WWE.

Post-match, The New Day were confronted by AJ Styles and Omos. Styles mentioned that he didn’t have any plans for WrestleMania 37. Omos interjected, saying that he and Styles should be the RAW Tag Team Champions. To this end, Styles and Omos officially challenged The New Day for their newly-won RAW Tag Team Titles. Never a team to back down from a challenge, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods accepted. The RAW Tag Team Championship match is now set for the biggest show of the year.

The New Day as RAW Tag Team Champions – What’s Next?

As stated earlier, The New Day is set to defend the RAW Tag Team Titles against the duo of AJ Styles and Omos at WrestleMania 37. To win won’t be an easy feat for the champions, however. While Styles is a seasoned wrestler, not to mention a multi-time WWE Champion, Omos’ size, strength, and overall presence make him a threat in his own way. Following WrestleMania 37, the red belts may be in possession of new champions. However, what if The New Day can overcome this next challenge? It’s safe to say that the tag team landscape on RAW will be crowded. Here a few potential contenders to consider.

The Hurt Business

If Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin don’t immediately vie for the same titles that they lost this week, it may surprise fans. For 85 days, Alexander and Benjamin have held the RAW Tag Team Championship, defending it against such teams as The Lucha House Party. Needless to say, this recent loss has been a shock for The Hurt Business. However, even the most thriving of businesses have setbacks. It may be time to restrategize in order for The Hurt Business to claim the RAW Tag Team Titles for the second time.

RETRIBUTION

Another unit that The New Day has been at odds with is RETRIBUTION, led by the nefarious Mustafa Ali. Recently, luck has not been on the side of the renegade stable, as the group has struggled to pick up victories. However, their mere presence on Monday Night RAW puts them in contention for the brand’s tag team gold. Ali, as well as his stablemates, has not forgotten the humiliation dealt by Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. What better revenge can RETRIBUTION exact than to pry the RAW Tag Team Titles from The New Day’s collective grasp?

Along with the impending threat of AJ Styles and Omos at WrestleMania 37, it’s safe to say that The New Day isn’t short on competition. In fact, a new team may be on the rise, their goal being to achieve success at the expense of the RAW Tag Team Champions. As a group, The New Day has held 11 tag team titles in WWE. Don’t expect them to surrender their newly won titles so easily.
