Edge Enters the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble

Edge 2021 Royal Rumble

On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, a promo featuring Edge aired. The “Rated R Superstar” has been out of action since this past June, when he suffered a legitimate torn triceps in his match against Randy Orton at WWE Backlash. At the time, it was determined that the injury could set him on the shelf for up to eight months. However, during the aforementioned promo, Edge revealed that he would be returning in a major way: as a competitor in the 2021 Royal Rumble match.

During the promo in question, Edge recalled when he first had to retire from in-ring competition following WrestleMania 27. The former multi-time world champion used this as an example that tomorrow wasn’t guaranteed. In instances such as these, one had to pick themselves up and keep moving forward. This promo was cut with the same level of intensity and grit that fans have come to expect from Edge. What he said next, however, surprised fans at home.

“I am entering the Royal Rumble,” Edge declared. “I know it won’t be like last year. The stakes are higher.” He made a vow to not only enter the Royal Rumble match on Sunday but win, allowing him to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 37. “If you got a dream, at some point, you got to fight to make that dream a reality.”

Edge has been part of seven Royal Rumble matches throughout his WWE career. Of these, he has won the 2010 Royal Rumble, which was where he made a surprising return from injury. It was in last year’s Rumble where Edge returned after nine years of retirement from the ring. On Sunday, can Edge become among the elite to win the Royal Rumble match on more than one occasion? Regardless, it’s safe to say that this match has become that much more vital.
