Matt Sydal is All Elite

His third eye is on the prize – Matt Sydal is All Elite! Earlier today, All Elite Wrestling took to Twitter to announce that the high-flying Sydal was officially part of the company. Sydal made his AEW debut at this past September’s All Out event. He competed in the Casino Battle Royale; since then, he has made multiple AEW programming appearances, not only on Dynamite but DARK as well. He currently holds victories over Michael Nakazawa, Sonny Kiss, and Christopher Daniels, just to name a few.

Wrestling fans may best know Sydal from his time in World Wrestling Entertainment, where he worked from 2007 to 2014. Wrestling in WWE as Evan Bourne, he picked up wins over the likes of Chavo Guerrero and fellow AEW star Chris Jericho. In 2011, he formed a tag team with Kofi Kingston known as Air Boom. Together, the pair won the WWE Tag Team Championship, which they held for 146 days. Together they successfully defended the titles against teams including Epico and Primo in addition to R-Truth and The Miz.

Following his departure from WWE, Sydal made his way across the independent scene and appeared in multiple prominent promotions. Among these was IMPACT Wrestling, where he worked heavily in 2018. During this time, he became an IMPACT Grand Champion and X-Division Champion. In 2015, Sydal debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling, first appearing at their Destruction in Okayaka event in September of that year. In NJPW, Sydal became a two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, winning the title both times alongside Ricochet. They also won the 2015 Super Junior Tag Team Tournament.

Now that Matt Sydal is a contracted AEW wrestler, the sky is the limit for the man who knows it better than most. He has gained tremendous momentum in AEW, which begs the question: what’s next? It may very well be the FTW Championship. On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Sydal is set to challenge Brian Cage, the current reigning FTW Champion.
