Once again, Sunderland and their fans find themselves in dire straits and once again, the Black Cats find themselves with a new manager at the helm. Chris Coleman is now tasked, like many before him, in bringing the good times back to Wearside. With all the changes and disappointments seen throughout the years, the broken record is playing the tune that many know well. It’s time once again for Sunderland supporters to back their team like only they can.
Time Once Again for Sunderland Supporters to Back Their Team
Since their formation in 1879, Sunderland have had good times. League Championships, FA Cup wins and promotions. Even the great escapes in recent times could be seen as good times. However, dark days have engulfed the club on many occasions. At the moment the club are in the relegation places in the Championship. Relegation to England’s third tier for only the second time in their history is, at present, a real possibility.
Sunderland supporters have seen it all before though and even though times are tough and have been for some time, supporters time and time again back their team in their thousands when it is needed. With Chris Coleman now at the helm, it is time once again for the club and it’s loyal but long-suffering fan base to pull in the same direction.
Coleman has obviously taken on a tough job; one of the hardest in football at present given the turnover in managers in recent history. It is not an impossible job but some supporters will need convincing that things are changing on and off the pitch for the Stadium of Light to become the fortress it has been and can be again.
It May Take Time
Although supporters will be asked to back the club and their new manager once again, and if the signs are positive, they will, but it may take time. Coleman has been in the job since Sunday and even he, with the confidence he has coming in on the back of an excellent time in charge of Wales, could have his work cut out in the short term.
This is still a team that is in the Championship relegation places. The club is still hurting from last seasons disastrous campaign that saw the team relegated from the Premier League without a fight. And last weekend they extended their winless home run to 20 games. They broke the record during their 2-2 draw with Millwall.
Talented But Lacking Confidence
Many of the Sunderland squad are talented. There are several internationals in the first team. Some Coleman will know well; however, with confidence low, it could take time for positive results to come on a regular basis.
Give Supporters Hope
Attendances have been down this season and few could blame fans for staying away due to what has been on show, and not just during this season. But if Coleman and the team can show some fight and determination then fans will return a lot sooner than later. Coleman wants the Stadium and the city to be “rocking and rolling” again. It won’t take much as Sunderland supporters know how to back their beloved club.
They have been down many times before but come out fighting and come out backing their team in their thousands like few others can. It can seem like a broken record playing the same old tune, but once again it is that time for all to back their team.
