Chelsea endured a quite frankly awful 2025/26 season, finishing tenth in the Premier League. Confidence was sky high after the club brushed aside Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the Club World Cup under Enzo Maresca. However, the Italian departed mid-season, with the appointment of his successor, Liam Rosenior, not working out, leaving the club’s supporters less than impressed. With Xabi Alonso now at the Stamford Bridge wheel, and new players joining, optimism appears to be returning to West London. Chelsea’s former captain John Terry has spoken on his TikTok channel praising the £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers, revealing one key factor in signing the England international.
Xabi Alonso Era Begins at Chelsea
Chelsea Strengthen for 2026/27 Season
Chelsea will be determined to improve on an underwhelming 2025/26 season. They have no European football this season, so it feels like a great opportunity for Xabi Alonso to build something special at Stamford Bridge. Alonso already made a splash in this transfer window by signing Marco Palestra. The deal to sign Geovany Quenda was completed last year, but he joins up with Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season after finishing his final season with Sporting CP.

Alejandro Garnacho has joined Aston Villa on loan from the Blues with an obligation to buy, which has been reported widely as easily achievable. The Blues have been heavily linked with various players, but the signing of Rogers seemed to catch many unaware. It feels like a statement signing from West London ahead of the 2026/27 season.
John Terry Discusses Morgan Rogers Signing
Reflecting on Rogers signing for Chelsea, Terry said:
“Unfortunately, the World Cup is over, but we’re back to the Premier League, which starts very soon. And exciting times for Chelsea. Signing Morgan Rogers for £117 million. What a signing, by the way.
“I know the Villa boys speak very highly of him, and he’s gonna be a big miss for Villa, but is a great addition to our squad. The link-up between him and Cole Palmer next season, I think, is gonna be off the charts. And the connection they have is gonna be excellent. So who’s got the celebration, boys? I wanna know, but I look forward to seeing it very often at the Bridge next year.
“Also, his words, not mine: he has joined the biggest club in London, and I totally agree with him.”

Revealing what Terry believes to be the key factor in Rogers joining Chelsea: “I think there’s a key factor to this. And Xabi Alonso, which we’ve not spoken about on here so far, I think is the best possible manager we could have gone and got in the position we are at the moment. No Champions League that we spoke about. And he’s a top manager, very young.
“Will understand these players. More importantly, I think when you’re Morgan Rogers and Xabi Alonso comes to meet you, you can only be impressed by him.”
Despite the disappointment of last season, it feels like a refreshing air of optimism is building at Stamford Bridge. Alonso is a great appointment, and it appears he is being allowed to build the squad he wants. The West London club is proven to still be a huge pull for players, and with Alonso in charge, the future looks bright on the Kings Road.
