Youri Tielemans to Manchester United is in advanced talks according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. Manchester United are on the hunt to reimagine their midfield and the latest name on their list is the highly regarded Belgian, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
Manchester United and Youri Tielemans could be a match made in heaven. He’s versatile, experienced but young enough to have a future at the club, something that United will want after the contract of Casemiro ended at the end of last season.

Midfield Options
Following the expiry of Casemiro’s contract and Manuel Ugarte’s lack of form and World Cup injury, Manchester United’s pursuit of a midfielder has become even more important in recent weeks.
With their sights set on players who have gone elsewhere in Elliott Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, they’ve shifted to a player who is well known to United.
Youri Tielemans was on United’s radar before he signed for Leicester in 2019. He impressed with performances for both Anderlecht and later Monaco before moving to play in England.
The 29 year old became a pivotal figure in Leicester’s midfield and helped them maintain Premier League football for five seasons on the bounce before moving across the midlands to Aston Villa in pursuit of Champions League football.
During his three seasons at Villa, Tieleiman’s has played consistent European football and helped Unai Emery’s side secure the Europa League last season.

Youri Tielemans to Manchester United
Ornstein revealed that, despite interest from other clubs, Youri Tieleiman’s preference would be a move to the red side of Manchester. The Belgian international has a contract with Aston Villa until June 2028, but United have pinpointed Tielemans as a priority signing. Ornstein also revealed that Aston Villa don’t want to sell Tielemans and offered him a new deal, however, Youri Tielemans to Manchester United seems on the cards.
This signing would go alongside that of Andrey Santos, who Fabrizio Romano revealed as a ‘here we go’ from Chelsea to Manchester United last week, however, nothing has been confirmed by the club itself.
Manchester United correspondent for The Athletic, Mark Critchley described Tielemans’ potential acquisition as a ‘swoop for proven quality and for a player with many attributes that United have been looking for’.

From Ederson to Tielemans
Funds have seemingly become available for Youri Tielemans after Manchester United’s move for Brazilian midfielder, Ederson, fell through last week. A deal worth roughly £35 million was agreed between United and Atalanta and initial medical tests were completed, however, following secondary medical tests after Brazil’s exit from the World Cup, United decided to cut the deal off.
With the funds from the Ederson deal now seemingly going towards a potential Youri Tielemans deal for United, it shows a clear intention to bring in Premier League proven quality into a midfield that was inconsistent last season at best.
Youri Tielemans to Manchester United would cost United as little £35 million due to a release clause in the Belgian’s contract.
