United States Team News

After victory in the group stage, including a thumping defeat of a Paraguay side that upset Germany to reach the last 16, it’s the money rounds for the USMNT. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have shown a world class attack, scoring eight goals in three games, though the defence was significantly worse when Pochettino rotated his XI against Turkiye on matchday 3.

The key attackers Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun look fit and ready for the United States. The only injury concerns? Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie, two defenders, and backup midfielder Cristian Roldan. That means it will be an “ideal” XI for the USA, Matt Freese in goal, the veteran Tim Ream at CB and the budding young star Alex Freeman at RB, and the usual midfield and forward lineup that the USMNT has preferred.

They are heavy favorites but they are motivated under Pochettino, and the USMNT will need to work hard to break down Bosnia’s defence and avoid mistakes that could allow Bosnia to hit back on the counter.

Bosnia Team News

Bosnia needed a win over Qatar and a brave draw against now R16 participants Canada to reach the knockout stage for the first time. Defensively sound, but flexible in attack, they really can’t complain about the results thus far. Amar Dedic could be out in the backline with a thigh injury though he did return to training. Tarik Muharemovic returns from a red card suspension. At age 40, Edin Dzeko is still set to start as striker as he builds his World Cup legacy. Esmir Bajraktarevic is a US born rising star winger for Bosnia who will also be a focal point.
